May 5th is the deadline for protesting. Getting the comps should be easy but you have to liaise with clerks office by mail. Since it took over three weeks for my assessment to make it to me, I don't like my odds on getting it protested in time....remember when the mail wasn't so half ***? It doesn't seem like it was all that long ago.

I did mine online last year & won. Hopefully will do the same this year.

I filed my protest using iFile.hcad.org/hcad-online -services/ifile-prot est/You do have to create an account with HCAD, not sure the protest will do much good. The assessment is based on Jan 2020 values not current values is my understanding, plus there are budget shortfalls this year at the state and local level.

@tinytim : yes, that's what I used last year. They lowered it to less then the previous year. I was very happy. Everything is done online. This year, I hope they do the same thing, but I doubt it.

@TexanFan1 : Curious as this is my first year protesting, I wonder what your process was since you were successful.I just went to har.com and listed homes for sale with similar sq ft and within 1 mile of my house. Should I of done more?

I've done the online thing before and they just automatically lowered it.

@tinytim : I asked a realtor friend for comps. I guess I could have done what you did. Used the iSettle on the HCAD web site. It was easy the 1st time. We shall see if it works 2 years in a row.I was just so happy not to have to go there to protest. That it all took place online.

Yes mine went up the max of 10%

10% here also. It hasn't increased in a couple of years.
