Anybody go through a bankruptcy? Chapter 7 or 13? Anything you wish people told you going in? Did you lose your car, home, or both?

@ParksideRes : Not yet but it's trending that direction. Just want to hear from people that went through it. Was it worth it?

@WeveBecomeEastHouston : Should be able to keep both as long as you can make payments. Chapter 13 might be a better option. Best to contact an attorney as soon as possible. However in some chapter 7 cases, they can take both.

@WeveBecomeEastHouston : I didn't loose anything in 2008 that was personal. I went through a lawyer name Bair maybe Thomas Bair in downtown Houston, he was good, real good. We lost every penny that we had in the stock market, our life savings etc, To the tune of 1.5 million and have been poor ever since.

Chapter 13 is paying your debt in a lump payment to a trustee who then pays the collector.

Chapter 7 is not. You do get to keep a car for each licensed driver and your home by reaffirming your loans. But debt that is unsecured is dissolved if you will.

Bankruptcy should be outlawed....Let the "Free Market" do it's thing....Not right being able to cast off debt and have others pay for it by not getting paid for their products/services....

It's basically a "Financial Abortion", no?....

@EddyFree : yeah buts its legal, just like your abortions. Perhaps we should all have bankruptcies? Or multiple bankruptcies and have the government pay for it.
