Electric plans ??

I know nothing about choosing electricity plans. How do you choose? What is the difference etc? My current plan expires at the end of the month.

@tommie, you need to just look at powertochoose.org
they lay it all out in a table to compare rates. you need to know your EIN from your account to be able to swap. wouldn't hurt to look at a previous bill to see what kind of kilowatt hours you use to help choose a plan that fits your usage. some have additional charges if you use less than they target for.

@tommie : Just keep in mind that nothing is free. They may say free nights or free weekends, or they may give you free bonuses in visa cards, sign on bonuses or money back, ect. Nothing is free. You end up paying for it one way or another. I use Energy Ogre. They charge $10 a month and always keep you on the best plan. My bill was $42 the last two months. You really should look it up.

My electric bill is consistently around $40 from October to til April. Just read the fine print. Watch out for companies that charge fees or base it on usage. A good low flat rate is best. And it's constantly changing. I had one company and looked into them again later and their plans were all super high.

@tommie : Yes. Pay them separate from provider. I have been with them for three years. They have changed my provider three times.

@tommie : Go to TrueCost. It will give you your final price, everything included. PowerToChoose is intentionally confusing.

We use TXU. I pick the lowest rate every year with no min or max usage. They give loyalty credit or sign up gift cards. The low rates on powerchose.org seem to be too good to be true, when you click on them, a lot of different charges come up and you end up paying same amount.
