I'm a firm believer that all this building going on in the area is changing the way the rains, raising water etc are causing all this flooding. They build, build, build but don't think about the lasting results of what they've done when they change up the landscape, natural flow of the waters. This last rise in water got close to my house, streets coming in my hood that have NEVER seen flood waters were flooding and we couldn't get home for hours until the water receded. Scared for the first time since moving here 15 years ago.

@Sammiejo : I am guessing they would have to condemn some land to stop the building. That would not make people that own land and bought it as commercial happy. They can't just take it but could make the building rules to have retaining features or a way to drain. The heavy rains didn't help either.

@ladybeachbum : They need to build retention ponds and make it so the waters flow off the streets into them. At our last HOA meeting we were told they were going to go into the underground drainage and check everything out, clean out where they can. It would be a huge help if folks wouldn't put grass clippings/leaves down the street drains.

@Sammiejo : Yes, people that let the grass and leaves go down the drain are responsible for some. I spent yesterday afternoon cleaning the leaves from the street headed for the drain around my house and my next door neighbors. I used my lawnmover with the bagger and it was pretty easy. I have a lot of trees and feel responsible for keeping them from doing damage. I never see the lawn guys taking leaves away.

I can't believe they are finished dredging the river & lake Houston .? I don't think they did much of anything in the lake . If you are driving from Huffman towards Atascocita & your on the bridge . Look over to the right there is a tree laying on it's side out in the middle of the lake . Talk about shallow !!! I would be afraid to ski in this lake now . Someone said there are sandbars off the point that is very shallow water .

We had an underground drainage system put in a few years ago. It was money well-spent, imo. Sometimes it looks like a geyser out by the curb from the water coming out of our yard!!

This is a single home on a single lot under construction in my subdivision. Appears the COH is requiring a retention pond. So all new homes may be required to have their own mud pit.

The CofH and the county make all type of business put in retention ponds.
BUT, they don't (City of HOUSTON and Harris County) put in retention ponds when they
do building projects.
Case in point, C of H is doing massive building at the Bush Airport, new terminals, new
runways, guess what they don't put in retention ponds.
During tropical Storm Allison all that flooding Lee Road, Homestead Road, etc.
That water came from a Bush Airport.

Wheres our street sweepers? Oh that money went to the six figure guy, they're dredging is a waste of money, we almost flooded during Imelda & nothing during Harvey, dredging took place in between waste of money.
