My problem with this is the Saudi government is a monarchy. We are going to protect oil fields we have no ownership in, so that they can profit. Wrong on so many levels. I wish we would shrink our overseas bases and let other countries pay for their own military.

Just keep growing that deficit. Emoticon

got us into the first gulf war. World oil supply. We have financial interests there.

Not justified to start a war on their behalf.

They blow up school bus full of kids with our bombs we continue to sell them, and when their adversaries successfully target legitimate targets, it is hysteria.

@redneckroy : What financial interests does the United States government have in Saudi Arabia?
As far as the United States oil dependency:
In 2018, U.S. net imports (imports minus exports) of petroleum from foreign countries averaged about 2.34 million barrels per day, equal to about 11% of U.S. petroleum consumption. This was the lowest percentage since 1957. Petroleum includes crude oil and petroleum products.Mar 29, 2019
The largest sources of U.S. imported oil were: Canada (40%), Saudi Arabia (11%), Venezuela (9%), Mexico (8%), and Colombia (4%).

We aren't as that dependent upon Saudi Oil as many countries are. Where are those countries military?

@tinytim : we have a history of oil development partnerships I. Saudi as well as strong alliance. However, I don't think current actions justify US presence I suspect trump personal interests at stake protecting with US military.

@redneckroy : Those are private entities not the United States government. I am against using the US military to protect private enterprise interest. Next thing you know we will be using the US military to protect private corporation facilities in other countries, wait that is kind of what is happening in Saudi.

@bbk : I was just saying post WWII that our military has been used to police the world and been deployed to many conflicts that I personally think we had no reason to be involved in.

@redneckroy : Our history is to use our military to protect the interest of private corporations? Really? Those partnerships in Saudi are of multinational private corporations, not government ownership at all.

When have we sent United States troops to defend the interest of private corporations. I was in the US Army for 12 years and never did that.

@dcmgti : I agree we need to mind our own business. BUT I was talking post WWII. Google Security Treaty Between The United States & Japan .The agreement contained 5 articles , which dictated that Japan grant the US the territorial means for it to establish a military presence in the Far East .The accord stated Japan bee prohibited from providing foreign powers any bases or any military related rights without the consent of the US Skipping a bunch ---- With this treaty Japan will not have the effective means to exercise it's inherent right of self -defense because IT HAS BEEN DISARMED . Much more info if you google .

Korean War - communism
Vietnam War - communism
Gulf War - defense of an ally invaded and occupied by another countries army.
Somalia - UN mission
Bosnia Conflict - NATO peacekeeping
Iraq War - Saddam Hussein and WMD's
Afghanistan War - Taliban
Syria - ISIS

Not a one to defend the interest of private cooperation partnerships or joint operations. It's not what the US military is used for. We aren't mercenaries.
