@HumbleGirl : I am glad they are getting the much-needed raises. But in my opinion as a former paraprofessional with Humble ISD they should've gotten a 7% raise too. They do a lot of heavy lifting ( there were many days where I was the one teaching the class were the real teacher was inside hanging out in the lounge) and are often overlooked. Just my opinion
@Weathergirl5 I totally agree with you. I'm glad that the teachers/professionals got raises, but as a retired paraprofessional I feel the same way you do. Support staff are very important to the educational process as well!!
@Weathergirl5 : So true. Its funny at the end of each school yr as my wife is walking out the doors everyone hugs her and will say good by and have a great summer. She has always said without everyone it just would not work. Even the custodians. She just started a new job and they showed her around yesterday at one of the schools she will be working at and she stopped to talk to the custodians that she saw and asked what there favorite drink was from sonic. Even tho her office will not be at that school.
Love that they are getting raises, but I have to agree that the support staff deserves it too. I am technically on the staff side at a University and we never get raises yet do a lot for the students.
@HumbleGirl : Looks like they are included, but are only getting 4%. The tweet could be inaccurate though. I would be happy with any raise since my job doesn't really do raises.
@KRAM : Exactly!! Our custodians and lunch staff rocked. They are all crucial to the success of the students. Often it's those people that are overlooked. But without them the school would not succeed. Your wife is wonderful for remembering and acknowledging them.
@HumbleGirl : They probably are included but at the 4% rate. I was just saying they should get the same rate (7% raise) as teachers. Most of them make well under 20K a year and work just as hard as the teachers. Many times teaching the class just as a teacher does. Not a livable salary but they do so much.
@Weathergirl5 : I totally agree. Many of the paraeducators have 2 yr. degrees and many have 4 yr. degrees. They teach classes and I have known some that do lesson plans. This raise will be a big morale boost.
Thank goodness for the raises❣️ Just wondering---is their insurance going up now??? When I was in the Humble ISD, that was the next question and the answer was usually "yes".
@psh : Not sure but when I was there the insurance went up every year. The last year I was there I got a 3% raise but the insurance went up so much I was taking home less money than before the raise. I hope this isn't the case.
