I've been seeing a motorcycle in the AM drive between cars as if it's a legal 3rd lane - is it for motorcycles? He scared the $%$! out of me this AM as I started to look over my shoulder to change lanes; he was right next to me! He continued to drive between the cars to pass the congestion. I see them do this in California but it's typically when the traffic is at a standstill. We were all going 50+ which would put him at risk of being hit. Not to mention, I see many of us start to change a lane THEN put on our blinker while merging over. Beware when traveling West on 1960 between 6:30 - 7:00am - I'd hate to see this guy injured and someone with a guilty conscience because they didn't see him.

@carol888 : Agree. My family made it a point to tell us about this when we visited CA because we were renting a car out of LA and they didn't want us to be shocked when we saw it.

We saw this a few days ago on 1960. I made the comment to my husband that the guy had a death wish and DH responded that's why they call them donorcycles!

From the sound of it and based on how the people drive down this stretch of 1960 - it's a problem that will solve itself in due time.

I just feel sorry for the poor sap who has to clean whats left of this person out of their wheel well.

Lane splitting is legal in California for motorcycle riders, however doesn't make it a safe practice with moving cars. Especially when they are moving at a high rate of speed.

Plus we aren't in California.

@BTLover : What's awful about this is the guy is in the wrong in driving between the cars like that , But no matter who hits this person they have to suffer over the injuries or his death which ever it may be . Nobody wants to harm someone like this but this person sure is asking for it with what he's doing .

@bbk : I couldn't agree more. I've seen him a few times and he DOES NOT WEAR A HELMET with not a care in the world and I pray I don't see him on the pavement.

Last I heard, there is a push to make lane splitting legal in Texas. Even if it does become legal, I'll never do it...

I'm also a rider. Its just too dangerous and its not legal. It forms an incorrect perception of the biker community. If there is a push to legalize it I hope it does not pass.
