Drunk stranger breaks into Kingwood home
KINGWOOD, Texas -
An intruder broke into a family’s home through a bedroom window and made himself at home.
The Westbrook family says the man went into their kitchen, tried to light a cigarette, he grabbed the family’s wine opener and told the homeowner he just wanted to play some Xbox. It happened around 4 a.m. on Sunday.
“My first thought was to get him away from my family,” said Joseph Westbrook.
He was able to force the man out the front door but the man kept trying to get back in. That’s when Joseph grabbed his gun and his wife dialed 911.
“He kept trying to come back in,“ Westbrook said. "I had the gun pointed at him and I’m saying, ‘I’m going to shoot you.’”
The man broke the handles on their garage door, he busted the window and their fence. The Westbrooks said the intruder was only 20 years old and hasn’t been charged with a crime.
They told KPRC, the police showed up and took him into custody but later let him go when the District Attorney's office wouldn’t accept charges.
“He broke into my home, he should be charged with the crimes and face punishment.”
The District Attorney’s Office told KPRC on Monday that charges weren’t initially filed but the case remains under investigation.
“It was very traumatizing, especially to my wife and son,” Westbrook said.
