Energy delivery charges.

Energy charge = $135

delivery charge = $85

Seems pretty darn steep to pay over 60% of bill in "delivery" charges.

Just curious how others bills compare, and if this is a standard regulated fee that all providers will pass on equally. Just renewed contract . Just curious as to whether this is worth fighting with when I renew in a few months.

I'm with Tri Eagle Energy. My latest bill was for 1877 kWh of usage, at 9.7 cents/kWh. This comes to $182.07 for the energy charge. There's a $4.95 base charge and a $0.31 assessment charge. Total bill was $187.33. Hope this helps.

@redneck roy The delivery charge is standard, correct? I agree, it's stupid how much they charge. I've just settled for constantly switching energy companies with low rates to compensate for the high delivery fee.

My last bill was $232, over $65 in delivery fees.

If I'm looking at my bill right, my delivery charge is expensive.

@West-tex No delivery charge. This is, in part, why I renewed for 24 months with them.

@redneck roy So...I wonder why some providers charge the delivery charge and some don't. My bill is already high so going somewhere where they don't charge for delivery would help me. My bill last month was 360.85.

@West-tex Are you under contract? I've been checking powertochoose.org and right now some companies are at 4 per kwh.

I too thought the delivery charge was with all companies.

@DaycareMom I'm not sure. I will have to ask my husband. That delivery charge is crazy.

Every company has its own way of getting some kind of a charge... We have Green Mountain... Still seems a little high but run a pool ,hot tub and the house 24/7 so I guess it's not to bad.

You get a lower KWh rate and pay the delivery charge or a higher KWh rate with no charge

@West-tex This is what I got from one of the electric provider websites. In some form or fashion everyone who has electricity pays this delivery fee..

These are the Delivery Charges of your Transmission and Distribution Service Provider (TDSP) as of June 1, 2015.  These charges are total amounts assessed by a TDSP for the delivery of electricity to a customer over poles and wires and other TDSP facilities not including discretionary charge.

Delivery Charges are approved by the Public Utility Commission of Texas and apply to all residential customers, serviced by the TDSP, regardless of who their retail electricity provider is. The Delivery Charges are displayed under a separate section on the monthly bill under the description “Delivery Charges” so it's easy find them .

Certain TDSP charges are billed on a monthly basis, and some are billed on a usage basis (per kilowatt hour).  For this reason, the total Delivery Charges amount will vary each month depending on your monthly kilowatt-hour usage.
