Just moved to the area and am so excited to see what are peoples favorite things to do in the area. I hear alot about lake Houston, but what can I do there? Any favorite restaurants?

You can use the "Search Forum" button on the left side of the page and look at dozens (dare I say perhaps even hundreds?) of prior posts about area restaurants.

Lake Houston is our water supply and for the majority of us living around it that's about the highlight of it's existence. There is a small percentage here that have boats and use the lake for recreation.

Welcome to the area. There are plenty of things to do around here. Check the "Events" page and stay connected to the ADC to hear about local happenings!

Hi & welcome,

If you cross the 1960 bridge there are several places where one can rent boats and jet ski's. We live over in Huffman and use the lake for fishing and swimming - our neighborhood's lake access is private but anyone can use places such as Duessen park farther down WLH for fishing. There is also a wonderful dog park there and covered pavilions for picnicking.

Restaurants we enjoy include Cedar Landing (casual seafood) just across the 1960 bridge on the lake. Other restaurants we like are down in Kingwood at King's Harbor shopping area - for family meals we like Sharky's (seafood). Date night for us is often the wine bar in the same center. For very fancy date nights we like Chez Nous in Humble down off G street. I've just discovered sushi and for that we enjoy Ginger Café which is up by Whataburger on 1960 & WLHP.

Go across the bridge to Kingwood and some Friday nights they have free concerts. Here is the link kings-harbor.com/eve nts
A concert Aug. 7 is coming up. Take your lawn chair and ice chest or go early and eat on the outdoor area of Sharky's or Raffa's.

The best kept secret is Verons Cajun Specialty meat market on 1960 at the corner of Pinehurst Blvd, right by the Harris County Library.
