Gov Abbott asks Pres Obama for assistance

President Obama said Tuesday he spoke to Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) and pledged federal assistance to help the state recover from catastrophic flooding.

“I assured Gov. Abbott that he could count on the help of the federal government,” Obama told reporters in the Oval Office. “I will anticipate that there will be some significant requests made to Washington. My pledge to him is that we will expedite those requests.”

At least 11 people have been killed in Texas and Oklahoma, where massive rainstorms triggered the floods.

Obama said personnel from the Federal Emergency Management Agency are already on the ground assisting Texas authorities.

Hope they don't send any national guard folks otherwise some might think the Jade Helm threat is real and we're being invaded.

And some will say a plot to take over Texas and I assume other states( it's conducted in several states). So the US is taking over from the US. And all our soldiers who are sworn to defend the US constitution are going to have to fight themselves. Clearly I do not believe this.

Oh to be a fly on the wall when Abbott asked Obama for assistance. Check the money for microphones-lol

Saw Abbot's news conference and he thanked neighboring governors for their assistance, but no mention of help or thanks to the Feds.

Gov. Jindal was singled out for sending 2 Blackhawk helos and sandbags.- Hmmmm? Naw can't be.-lol

Every state pays in to the Fed. This is the protocol and the way It works. No political issue with this...

Assistance Protocol-

1-Do thank neighboring Governors for their assistance.

2- Do not thank the President or the Federal government for theirs( Do not even mention it).

@Posterguy Probably because the federal government is supposed to assist states when an emergency happens (we pay directly into the federal government), other states (who we do not contribute to directly) are not expected to, but when they do they have gone above and beyond to be good neighbors.

Yes the President must hate the state of Texas, and heaven forbid we acknowledge and thank the assistance during this troubling time (which has nothing to do with paying into the system, more like saying thanks for the help)- but some of you are right it probably has nothing to do with politics.

@Posterguy

Showing any gratitude towards the current admin is not safe politically. Remember Christie thanked Obama and praised his fast response after hurricane Sandy. He got bashed for it. Got dropped to RINO status and pretty much killed his 2016 presidential run chance. All for showing basic manners and gratitude.

Thanking the federal government would be like thanking an insurance company IMO.

Sad, but true.

What happened to political courage?

You could say something like-

While we don't always see eye to eye I would like to thank the President for his prompt assistance. Are we all Americans or what?

I'm not fond of the President but Abbott should be able to do a common courtesy and say "thank you for the help."
