I need help!

Please PM me if you have a doc that prescribes medication for ADD. I promise to keep it private.

DH has had brain mapping tests, etc and has been diagnosed, he's successfully been on this type of medication for many years. His doc suddenly passed away last year and the doc who took over that practice has decided to stop writing for this type of med.

Every office I have called to ask if they prescribe this med tells me no. It's absurd. Somebody prescribes it because there are many kids on it, so where are these docs? I have one month to find someone else before he runs out of medication. Please let me know if you a contact for me.

Thank you! It's so frustrating to get that 'tone' from the office staff when I call and ask if their office prescribes it. They act like I'm asking for a prescription for crack.

@Sammee :
Why don't you ask a drug store they are the people filling the prescriptions . They should know which doctors up here prescribe it .

Well, I called the pharmacy that we've been using for the past 20 years and they can't give out that information. Really?

Seems like the new doctor would have his medical records to show that he is not an abuser. A psychiatrist will prescribe the medication (usually Adderal) for ADD. It is a shame that people have abused drugs to their detriment, and now the rest of us have to suffer. All I could take for my broken leg was aspirin. My surgeon would not prescribe anything stronger. Crazy! I don't take pain meds any more than I have to.

Yes, this doc has all medical records, including all diagnostic test results. He has simply decided that his practice will no longer prescribe this type of medication for any of his patients. I assume a patient did something to put his license in jeopardy. He is referring these patients to a psych, but our specialist copay is $80, as opposed to $40 for a general practitioner.

I worked in chronic pain management for 12 years, so I understand the reluctance of docs to write prescriptions for controlled substances. It's a huge responsibility. It's just frustrating.

I would start out with the back story first then ask if they can help find a doctor who prescribes it , IF you're not trying that approach now ..

asking straight up would sound like a pill shopper

I do tell the backstory, to no avail. Anything longer than about 20-seconds and they have lost interest, only hearing key words after that. Lord, give me patience today.

I don't need to pm you in hopes this will help others. We faced this same problem with our pediatrician retiring.
We recently went in and took our old med bottle and saw Dr. Diaz (in front of HS) he was happy to assist us.

Hope this helps you.

You are probably going to find a GP who will prescribe. I know the specialist is high but my son sees Dr Sunkureddi. After the first visit you will see a PA if that helps and if he's stable you would only have to go every 3-6 months. There is one PA I'd avoid there however
