Retired people/stay at home wife/ question

Ladies how do you structure your cleaning schedule so that your husband isn't always in your way or undoing what you just did? I swear I get the kitchen just right and I'll be damned if he doesn't want lunch 2 minutes later.

@Cabin_Mama :
Structure & schedule is out the door . If it isn't out the door your going to be some unhappy campers .You will learn to send him to the grocery store or get him to do something outside . Take the car to the car wash . Anything to busy him long enough to vacuum & mop at least the den where he will be without shoe prints on the wet floors .Mine is semi retired . He tried retiring 10 yrs ago & the people he works for ask him for just 1 more yr .And each yr that is what has taken place . And I complain about the kitchen also I cook constantly. Mainly because 99 % of the restaurants I'm either sick of their food are I just never liked it to start with .

Yep, the cleaning lady comes every two weeks. But in the meantime, let him know how nice it would be for him to clean up after himself. Just because you're a stay at home wife doesn't mean he gets to make messes and expect you to clean up after him. Hey, he's not a little kid and you're not his mom.

Turn off tv and start vacuuming. They will gladly find something to do outside or somewhere

@Cabin_Mama My DH doesn't work at home, so it's different for me. I spend about 45 minutes every morning spot cleaning every room just to keep up. Deep clean about once a week (usually Thursdays).

Then they all come home. All of them. Every day.

I have no expectations anymore.

I wanted to remove every horizontal surface in my home so that they won't have anywhere to pile up their stuff, then I realized that they would just drop it on the floors. I am afraid that DD suffers from the same lazy**** disorder as DH. It's a constant struggle. I'm fairly certain that if I ever died, they would both be featured on an episode of Hoarders within a year.

@Sammee :

They'll just find a way to pile it up vertically. Hooks. Thumb tacks. Darts. Duct tape. Somehow employing zero gravity in your living room. Whatever.

Give up and find some level of mess you can deal with, then be happy.

Mine is just as bad. Empty Coke can 3 feet from the trash. I tell him you could at least throw it and if you miss I'd think you tried a little. Never picks anything up after himself.

Well he's the one working (from home) and I'm the one that's sort of retired. We had a maid but now I'm the one doing those jobs because I can. He isn't messy or inconsiderate, just can't quite figure out how to get my stuff done without it being almost instantly undone. I'm realizing that he did a 20 minute clean up each day before I came home from work, so I never knew what all really went on. We'all adjust!

This is a true story and I have always kept it on my mind.
My parents belonged to the BPOE in our town- it was the only country club. When my Dad retired my Mom especially had a hard time adjusting for the exact reasons listed.
She was at the club playing bridge and complaining about My Dad being underfoot. One lady spoke up and said " well at least you have a husband who is able to make a mess and be underfoot." Shut my Mom right up as the woman was a widow.

She told me that and I had to chuckle- my Mom was rarely without words -and I remember those words to this day.
My hubs and I have been married 37 years this year- 35 of those have been with him having a home office when he's not traveling . He's good and picks up after himself pretty well. I just go ahead and do my cleaning- if it gets messy it stays that way till I clean again. My house is as clean as it gets with dogs and cats. Not like I'm going to be entertaining a VIP. It all gets done and it isn't perfect but it's not a disaster.
You'll find a groove and both of you will adjust
