Are newer TV's really this bad?

Or do I just have bad luck with them-I moved a lil over a yr ago and wanted new flatscreen TV's for my new place so I replaced my LR TV, a Mitsubishi 65 CRT that is atleast 15 yrs old (gave to my sis and still has a crystal clear pic and no issues ever except I cleaned the bulbs a few times) and my BR TV, Samsung 30" CRT (stuck it in the closet here but using it now in the LR till I figure out what I'm going to do) that's alil over 10 yrs old.
I bought a new Samsung Plasma 50" for my BR-15 mths old. A cpl mths ago the HDMI inputs went bad so I am using the co-ax connections for it (not as good of pic but works fine) and a LG 65" LED for my LR (same 15 mths old)that the pic went black during the Alabama/Texas A & M game today, sound still works but no pic.
WHT? These CRT's lasted over 15 yrs (and still pumping out great pics) and I have 2 flatscreens that both lasted 13-15 mths. I'm sure both of them are worth getting fixed (they ain't cheap) but although I like the flatscreens but I may look at finding some older CRT's that somebody has replaced with flatscreens so they'll last several yrs.

I think you may just have bad luck. I've had a 50 inch at the beach for 10 years and just replaced it with a 4k model but it was working fine. I have one here that doesn't get much use and it works fine. However, the one that gets used the most is a big box 70 inch in the study. I keep thinking I need to take it to the curb before it quits so I can say it works and someone will take it. Maybe I better rethink that and keep it.

It's probably internally programmed to "go out" shortly after the warranty so you'll buy a new one...I've had several devices like that....Loading Image...

Look up the model number on google and youll see if this model has a particular failure mode. If your handy and out of warranty you can get it fixed.

If you boutpght 100% of it on a mastercard or visa (no partial payment with gift cards etc) they typically double the warranty to two years. You might want to check with them.

Some models have problem but yes, in general consumer electronics are not desiged to have indefinate lifel like long ago. To reduce cost, they are pushing fewer, smaller and cheaper parts to the limits. The expense is reliability.

My 2008 panasonic 58" plasma died after two years and a few months. Emoticon. Being a sparkie, i opened it up and bouht replacement boards from ebay until i found the ine that was damaged. Took three tries at about $50 each but for $150 i got a then$3000 tv working again. One little transistor that should have a heatsnk but didn't and it was getting too hot to touch. I added a heatsink fin and some thermal goop to get it down to reasonable temps. On a high end tv they still cheaped out.

Thankfully, Its been working since with heavy use and no issue.

All the major brands are about the same in this regard.

You might consider Costco and their gold plated return policy for your next one.

@cousindan Costco has a two year warranty and with the Costco Visa card I believe it adds two more years. They will have some good deals on Black Friday. Their rental policy is now 6 months I believe.
