I really don't care what they do. Just tired of hearing about it. I do know they need more parking down there though

It's a very practical, pragmatic, Houston solution. Parking.

Blow the damn eyesore up. They tore down yankee stadium and Comiskey Park, they can dang sure tear down that cesspool .
Build a massive parking garage with elevators and moving walkways to each venue in the area.

Enough is enough

okay so at a glance - because I haven't reviewed specifics here; but $105M for 1,400 parking spaces, comes out to a net cost of $75,000 per parking space.

I will have to remember this at election time

Just a way to pay back their cronies. Voters told them once to tear it down. Must be some money here somewhere

70 mil from hotel tax parking rev

@Smokeybear :

not really, with the exception of tourism, Hotel taxes and fees are passed on as business operational costs. We still pay - one way or another.

To whom? I don't rent cars or hotels locally...(YMMV)...that's kinda Smokeybear's point isn't it? Think sales tax......don't buy, you don't pay.

So...nope, they are not priced into the rate.....it's a direct tax.

I do hate paying these taxes when I travel, though. The rack rate for those items are unaffected by these direct taxes. Out of towners are just a transfer mechanism.......same as sales tax. Zero effect on the locals.

As to the Dome......just do something........I'm tired of the discussion.....but the asbestos abatement is pretty dang pricey on a tear down.

I travel for business frequently, the hotel costs, rental cars etcetera are all costs passed on to whomever I am traveling to do business with, I would imagine that these costs are then passed on to end consumer. (with associated markups at each step of process) - hence indirect payment trail, as i said - i suppose this doesn't work for tourism; but it does if you are unfortunate enough to be forced to rent a car due to accident or repair of your own.

Its just my own observation/opinion.

Good point.......

But, the direct taxes in question 1) already exist...just a matter of allocation, and 2) are a transfer mechanism from non residents to the local coffers.......as I said, I hate'em........
