@CelticStorm, mmmmmm Portillos! I usually get an Italian beef sandwich when I go there. If I'm really hungry, I get the combo, which is an Italian beef sandwich topped with a Italian sausage link. Delish!My dad usually orders Portillos for the Super Bowl and has it shipped to Houston. We look forward to it every year! Love some Chicago style food, makes me feel like I'm still there...

This sounds interesting and I can walk there, but will someone splain to me what a Chicago hotdog is. Remember there is no such thing as a dumb question.....

@SmokeybearHot Dog, mustard (contrary to the ketchup I had heard!), onions, sport peppers, tomatoes, and either a pickle spear or dill relish.The tomatoes really gave me pause but not bad at all!.

I stopped by there to check it out before 6 pm last night and it was closed. Does anyone know their hours - seemed strange it was closed.

Stopped by there today and grabbed a jumbo dog combo (dog, fries, drink) $5.99. Got the works. Pretty darn good if you ask me. The sport pepper is a small pepper, couldn't really taste it with all the other stuff, so they are pretty mild. They have a regular dog, jumbo dog and a polish dog either by themselves or the combo. I'll tey it again when I'm not so hungry as I inhaled it when I got home. Gentleman running it was very nice. Told him I had never heard of a Chicago dog and he said you will like it. I agree about the tomatoes, something different, I just ate then first.

@CelticStorm You should have had an Italian Beef Sandwich at Portillos. They are the bomb! Wish they'd build one down here, they are popping up all over the country but not TX . Boo

I am sad to say, my wife got it, I tried it, and did not care for it.Don't kill me!Have you been to the local Gira dell's or what ever the Chicago Pizza Holy Grail that opened in Spring? Is it as good as the Navy Pier's?

@CelticStorm Cucumbers can be substituted for pickle spear. I haven't been to the place you're talking about. Do you mean Gino's East? Never cared much for them back home, but I'm a thin crust gal which is the original Chicago Pizza. Thick crust came in in the 60's at Uno's.
