HPD: Woman abandons infant child, reports her kidnapped

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A local woman is in custody after she allegedly abandoned her four-month-old daughter and claimed she was kidnapped.

HPD says that Cleo Mobbs, 29, reported her infant daughter as kidnapped around 1am Saturday, telling authorities that two men took the child from her home on the 1200 block of Cullen Boulevard.

Around the same time, HPD was called to conduct a welfare check for a child found abandoned outside HFD fire station #18 on Telephone Road. The caller requesting the welfare check witnessed a blonde woman -- who police later determined was Mobbs -- dropping the child in the grass outside of the fire station and fleeing the scene.

Investigators later determined that Mobbs had abandoned the child and fabricated the kidnapping store.

Mobbs has been charged with abandoning a child and is due in court Monday.

I am happy she dropped baby off and didn't kill her.

That's definitely a wig! Glad she didn't hurt the baby either. God bless those involved in rescuing the baby.

When I read she was being charged with abandoning a child & is due in court Mon I had your exact thoughts I also was happy she didn't kill her . I thought it was ok to leave a baby at the fire station , hospital , or police station or church . I thought I remembered pleas being made to not harm your child I f you can't handle the baby/ child you can leave it at one of those places & NOT BE IN TROUBLE ??? Well if that is correct why is she being charged ???

Wig or not she is a horrible person with bad hair! Baby is better off I am sure.

I don't think without knowing what her circumstances you can call her a bad mother . We have no idea if she just flat out has no money & nobody to help her . She may not be able to go to work & pay a sitter to care for her baby . She might be homeless on the streets & doesn't want this child living under a bridge or in the woods in heat & filth . She may have been giving her baby up because she loves it very much . One thing is for sure she didn't kill her child & there are plenty examples of mothers that did .

That for positive looks like a wig ......but I have never seen a wig with dark roots . Strange !

@bbk You are exactly right! I was too quick to judge and regretted posting then could not get back on because of the storm here. I just know there are tons of agencies and help she could have gotten but she might be suffering from depression or any of the above. All the children being abused or killed just has me on edge. I deleted the post as soon as I could.

Since she is in a wig, doesn't have eyebrows and appears to not have visible eyelashes, I wonder if she is going through cancer treatment. If she doesn't have any type of support system during such a physically and mentally draining time, she may have had a mental breakdown and thought this was best for the baby. Chemo poisons the entire body, including the brain and hinders the thought processes.

BTW, Mom--if you read this, I wasn't making fun of her. I was just amazed that a wig is made with visible dye-job roots.

I have in the past owned 4 or 5 wigs I bought in Japan & bought wigs later for my mom who was taking chemo . I have never seen any with roots & just think this is really strange looking .I also am amazed .

Maybe it's the wig industry's efforts to make them look more realistic. If so, can they please start making wigs with gray roots so that those of us who dye our grays don't have to touch up so often, in order to not look so conspicuous? Please?

Just put a bottle of dye on mine 2 days ago ! I'm going to be one of those women that dies never knowing what I looked like with grey hair . 2 of my best friends last year let theirs go grey . I have seen silver or white hair that is beautiful & looks beautiful on the women . This is not the case with my 2 best friends . They both over night look old & the color grey they have isn't at all pretty in my opinion .
