If you sign up for Athletics you have to try out for all the sports whether you want to play that one or not. My daughter actually wants to try out for all 3 teams (volleyball, basketball and track). 85 tried out for 7th grade and they are taking 29 of them. They will also take on some to be managers.

Thanks! She didn't make it. They picked 30 plus a manager. She says she is ok but she looks pretty disappointed. She said she hoped they didn't count it against her for missing school today because she was sick. At least now we don't have to be getting up at 5:30 everyday.

Oh yes she is definitely going to keep working. She likes volleyball and we play at our church on Thursdays for fun. She didn't know until tryouts that she was going to have to serve overhand and she hadn't learned how yet. But she said only about 5 of the girls could get it over the net overhand. She's ok. She is a tough cookie!

@tori6749 Sounds like she is! and she has a great Mom in her corner! Tell her to keep her head up tomorrow. It will be difficult.

She's doing fine. She said "I'm a good player and it is their loss! They picked their favorites, including girls who were talking in line and had to run laps and were goofing off." I made "Sorry you didn't make the team" brownies instead of "Congratulations! I'm so proud of you" brownies. I think she is disappointed but it isn't the end of the world to her.

@tori6749 my dd was playing at a church on Thursday nights is it on 1960? If she is really serious about playing volleyball I would suggest private lessons and playing club this season. Very few girls that do not play club make AHS 9th grade and that declines each year. By varsity only 1 girl on the team did not play club. Volleyball is a very competitive sport even natural talent sometimes can not compare to the experience of club players. They will play 100's more games compared to a non club athlete.

@Fiona We play volleyball at our church it is on Pinehurst off of 1960. She doesn't want to play in a club outside our church. Also not sure when we would find the time with everything else she does. She is only 12 and I am letting her feel her way on her activities. DH and I also feel it is good for her to learn disappointments at times. She is upset with the fact there were a few girls who made the team after the coaches told them they weren't going to since they were goofing off during tryouts.
