Are tire warranties a rip off?

I need new tires , my front tires are bald. I do tire rotations every other oil change? Anyways, i bought tires 35,000 miles ago at NTB and they are 80,000 mile tires but because of excessive wear they will not give me a credit on new ones. What a rip off. Going to try discount tire this time..

Walmart
....same stuff. We go through tires and these were the best. No warranty. I just pay the money. I get the cheapest tires due to the amount of wear I put on them.

Have you tried Sam's or Costco?

I know my dad has bought from Sam's before. Don't know about Costco.

the warranty is only good if you have a flat and the tire is not repairable...

the mileage numbers are not accurate.. never have been for me..

my wife has used her road hazard warranty from discount tire several times.... she always has bad luck with debris on the road.. she has had 2-3 tires replaced just on this set of tires, from road debris that caused a flat that was not repairable...

Discount tire has always done us right. Even when DH needed a patch they did it and rotated the tires for free. Didn't even buy the tires there. Make and appointment though because that place it crazy busy. You'll wait a long time if you don't

If possible go during the week with apt and it should be quick and sort of painless!

I don't deal with the big chains - they all suck pretty much. Consider Dan's Tire Shop on Wilson Rd. Local, fast, no problems. They do not keep a huge stock, so they will have them next day usually. Prepare to pay cash.

With my last purchase of tires, I priced tires on the enternet from a jillioin stores. Chose Discount Tire. Bought on line and made appointment for next day. Went in at appointed time and car went to the head line. Told me to allow for an hour or so, was out of there in 30 min.
They have stores all over and fix flats free, no matter where you buy the tire.
I like their business model and tryed to buy stock in the company, but they are privately held out of Phoniex. And everybody starts out in the bay mounting and fixing. Saw a girl working at the Woodlands store. Good for her. Please, I am not trying to be a sexist, it is just unusual to see ladies working in that enviorment, more power to them.

Have to admit that I am a Customer Copilot for Discount Tire. They started this a month ago wanting peoples feedback.

Here's the thing about fixing your flat for free. ANY tire place will plug a hole for about $12. It just isn't worth it to deal with big chains if that's your only reason - wherever you are in the US - if you limp into a tire shop they will either plug the hole for 6-12 bucks, or sell you a used tire for $50 or so until you get a new one. To me warranties and contracts and big box stores just aren't worth it when the most you would ever be out, like on a road trip or something is $50 or so.

WE have used Discount for as long as I can remember. They have always been good to us. I have shopped all over and their price is right there but with super service and nationwide which is extremely important to us.
