I have actually been spun around in one when coming home from a date. We were in his TransAm with t-tops. We could see the debris above us, then it just pulled up and left us in the intersection scared to death. That was about 43 years ago in Chicago burbs.
I woke up to my dog screaming in Cincinnati about 15 years ago. One was just going over the house when I got to the door. Didn't touch down by us, but had already tore a path through SE Indiana and touched down a few miles away and tore a really bad 30+ mile path zig zagging around all my inlaws areas within a block of each. A few people were killed in that one.

I think it would be cool to watch one from a safe distance, especially if I could hear it too...

I was in Madison, WI a few years ago on business in a hotel when a hotel employee was running up and down the halls telling people to get into the bathtubs because of an approaching tornado. Being the inquisitive knucklehead that I am, I looked out of the window and saw the tornado a couple of miles to the south. It was sadly amazing to see the debris field.

The next morning myself and a coworker went to the impact area and gave some labor hours to assist with trying to find pets, heirlooms, etc. It was a life changer for me. Very sad.

Anybody rember tornado drills in school? I remember pushing all desks together and climbing under in elementary school. Then in middle school we would sit in halls away from doors.

@redneck roy Yes! I'm from Omaha. We did them all the time.

Google Omaha tornado May 1975. It destroyed my elementary school. We had to finish out the school year at a neighboring school, by spliting the days with them. They sent us home from school early but didn't tell us why. I was in 1st grade. I went home with my best friend because my parents were out of town. I still remember the sound of it going over the house. It hit 4 blocks from my house. Leveling blocks of houses. It hit the hospital I was born in. Cars were stacked on each other, like matchbox cars. I still remember the sirens.

Does that explain, now, why I tend to notice dark clouds, especially in the afternoon??

On the other hand, I'd hate to be in a house without power at night hearing a Tornado coming and not knowing where it is, where it's heading, or how big it is...That's scary right there, I don't care who you are...

I was. Very young but I remember it vividly. My boys laugh at me because I come outside and watch the sky. The main thing I stress to them "if your ears pop like your on a plane, I hope you've already taken cover".

AwIle back we were at a practice at Lyndsy Lyons and I made a comment that the storm was bad and we should go. I don't remember where the tornado F1 cane down but I believe it was over in Crosby l.
