Philippine's new President 's drug program

Duterte , elected in June, ran on a policy to eradicate his country's drug problem.
Policy - Kill them , at one time urging citizens to take action.
In two months, more than 1,900 killings have occurred and around 700,000 drug users and peddlers have turned themselves in.
Over 1,000 of the killings occurred outside police ops.

I guess that is one way to put a dent in the situation.

@tflea
Well if they only lost 1,900 drug dealers/users and 700,000 turned themselves in. I'd say something worked.

I wonder what in the world they are doing with the 700,000+ people. Rehabilitation, cold-turkey method, prison, house-arrest or death?

I would not give much hope for them. President said before being elected , that the fish in Manila Bay were going to be fat.
Perhaps this is the way to handle drug dealers.

Drugs have destroyed a lot of lives in this country. Probably time to eliminate these people. Also time to get the medical association to pull some medical license of the pain pill docs.

There are no excuses for drug dealers and hardcore users. Mental health issues can be addressed in legal ways. Help is out there.

It's a "market based" business...Have to get rid of the buyers to destroy it...You can remove the suppliers all you want, new ones will take their place soon...

Same as the Mexican drug cartel problem...Root cause isn't the Mexicans, it's our consumers here in the US...Mostly those paying the high dollar for that "blow"...It's often self-satisfying to shake the stick at them, but we built that Frankenstein if truth be told...

You are young and I suspect know very little about life in other countries. Unlike the United States drug cartels, dealers and users in other countries are often mixed up with arms dealers, terrorist groups and human trafficking. These people have no regard for human life. Some may think this president is wrong in many ways but who are we to judge when we have the luxury of a Civilized Society.
