To file or not to file....

I was the 1st car in a 3 car pile up. I was not at fault. Should I file with my insurance.

I can pay my deductible and really don't want to deal with all the insurance companies.

Any thoughts.

You should file with the person at faults insurance. No need to contact yours.

Don't file on yours. May be meaningless now, but bad things may come in clusters, one or two more hits on your insurance and it gets out of control.

@757beach
The other company pays your deductible because they are at fault. It will not be against you so calling your insurance won't matter and they will handle others for you. They will get their money from them.

I would t call my own unless the other person who is at fault's doesn't want to pay. Then your insurance can actually help you recover your money from them.

@757beach - contact the vehicle's insurance company that was directly behind you to file a claim. Your insurance would tell you the same. If they don't pay then your insurance can step in.

@Palm Springs :

They better not tell you the same as Inkpad's correct on this as it's part of their responsibility to handle this for you. Definitely file with your ins carrier and let them pay the claim and subrogate against the at fault drivers ins. It's a hassle to deal with all that and they are a lot better than you at getting this handled and closed for you so you don't have to deal with it. Unlike some others posted-it's not going to hurt your ins by filing with your carrier-it's a non at fault accident and will appear on your driving record as an accident (you have to prove it's non at fault when applying for new ins/renewing your ins whether your file with your carrier or directly with theirs). Just a lot simpler to let your carrier handle it.

Your carrier WILL know even if you don't call them also. It's all in the system pretty much.

Did you file a police report? Who got tickets? CYA call your insurance since more than one vehicle is at fault! Are you ok? Take pictures and maybe call the other insurance companies

I was hit this same way and the policeman gave me her insurance to file but as I remember they contacted me before I called. I was stopped then a 3rd car hit the second, then me. They came and checked my car and paid asap.
