Art Briles fired along with Ken Starr AD.....

I knew it would come to this.....multiple rape and sexual assault allegations that he help cover up
.sorry @ Franklin.....

He will be hard pressed to get a college job....
But I'm sure the Cowboys would hire him

What's ironic is this is the same Ken Starr that investigated President Clinton over his sexual liaison with Monica Lewinsky. Now Starr is being accused of not cleaning up his own backyard in regards to alleged sexual misconduct. You can't make this stuff up.

In her article Amy Butler made a excellent point.

Coaches, etc. are only fired when the threat to the bottom line is greater than their revenue generating ability.

Appears Baylor worshiped their monetary stream more than their God.

So sad. The stats show that 1 out of every 5 women in college (in general) are been sexually assaulted. That stat is very true and scary. And 1 out every 15 males are sexually assaulted.

A couple of things on this Starr was the president of Baylor. He has been "demoted" to Chancellor? Based on this information that was released they should have fired every person on the staff who knew anything. There is no way on earth that assistant coaches, coordinators, etc didn't know about what was being said and/or done. I think it is more of a slap in the face to keep the DC and promote him to coach. Bigger question is now what happens to them with the NCAA? That is for sure lack of institutional control.

@mw3538

Bigger question is now what happens to them with the NCAA?

While that is a concern, I believe it a much smaller concern for the Baylor Board of Regents. They are very concerned about a Federal investigation for Title IX violations as well as some major losses from civil litigation from victims......

If you've read the excerpts prepared by the investigators from the Philadelphia law firm retained by the BOR, they unloaded on the athletic department and specifically the football program for failure to pursue the allegations appropriately.......and worse, retaliation against the victims.....I'll put some links in if anyone wants them.

And there were others in the athletic department fired, but they declined to release names. The AD was put on probation....

I admit, I was skeptical of the law firm retained for this investigation. I thought it would be a whitewash and Briles would survive....The two women that run this division of the firm have made a big reputation on Title IX issues......and they usually come across as more of a consulting firm than Independent investigators.....they seemed to have proved my skepticism unfounded based on what has been released so far.......

Findings.....

Cover up of sex allegations....

Intimidating and threatening women not to pursue charges....

Helping players that have been dismissed for " unspecified reasons " finding other schools where they can play....

Failure to report to administratos about sex allegations......

And this all began shortly after Briles arrived in Waco.....THAT IS SAD AND UNBELIEVABLE....

but they placed football above all else including raoe and sex assaults..... It put Baylor on the map, for a Heisman trophy, and got them a $400 million dollar stadium.....

Now the women will come out of the woodwork and lawsuits will pour in.....
The NCAA will hammer them, not as hard as Penn St...but a 5 year biwl ban and major scholarship reduction is in order.....
Briles will never coach again.....

@Franklin.....I don't know how close you are to the program, but 3 days ago you said he wouldn't be fired and you Sat in on meetings.....maybe you weren't privy to everything.....
If it can happen to Baylor it can happen anywhere.....

NCAA really needs to set an example somewhere. Perhaps a complete football ban for five or so years.

No they won't do that again.....that crushed SMU and they never recovered 30 years later.......
Baylor was nowhere near the scandal as Penn St and they didn't get it

As late as Tuesday, it was Briles who was going to be placed on probation and the AD fired as well as Starr being fired. It was the result of two of the Board of Regents who ultimately were successful in removing the coach. The initial decision had Starr being totally removed from any position on the campus. Making no excuses. However, Briles is not the person who is being made out to be. His character flaw is giving too many chances in hope that things will change. It was the AD who was running interference. He will be replaced. Too much money and influence in the Bear Foundation for him to stay. Neal Jeffery ( former quarterback and current Baptist minister in Dallas)will be brought back to the school with Grant Teaff being trotted out to assure the Baylor Nation that the school will rebound.

@Franklin4

I heard on 790 am that 3 BOR flew to Philadelphia to read the report with full intentions of keeping Briles... But after reading the report Briles had to go.....
Surprised Starr wasnt fired along with entire coaching staff......
But I believe a new AD will clean house.....

No way the assistants didn't know what was happening......
The way this looks is that Briles was the one intimidating these girls.......

Everything you say here fits what I have been told
and read. But, this charitable "character flaw" didn't seem to have much regard for the multiple victims........

If you believe the investigation was done properly, the football program was especially culpable......per the document, of course.

I do think you are right about McCaw running interference......thus the retaliation against the female athlete. How else is pressure brought to bear on an athlete in a non football sport to denounce her scholarship and leave? Why did he get merely a probationary action?

The whole thing stinks.......and sad, frankly

Money rules the world and football....

Shame that Drayton would stand by his man...
The NCAA will hammer them unfortunately for the athletes that had nothing to do with any of this....
