Folks, panhandling is an art form. Please do not encourage it by giving. There are now very many organizations where people in need can find assistance. I well remember, a few years back when in Houston, there was a "regular" panhandler at a particular intersection. As he approached me holding his pitiful sign, I picked up a plaque I carry that says, no soliciting. He visibly became very angry, was shouting at me and hit my car with his sign. Panhandling needs to be outlawed. Again, there are now many resources out there for people in need. In Humble one of the really good resources is HAAM. You would be appalled to know how much money some of these folks take in. Sorry but that is fact. Honestly.

I don't ever give and to anyone asking for money or donations on a street corner or parking lot. Too dangerous. They could be mentally unstable. Plus it just encourages the behavior.

I want to try it to see if I get any money. If it pays off I can do it Saturday and Sunday since I have a full time job. Y'all get your money out!

Panhandling needs to be outlawed

Last time I checked, this was America...Who are they hurting? In fact, people who give to them usually feel better about themselves afterward...So, it's like they're selling a mental massage...Churches do it too, only they pass a plate around instead of standing on the corner...

American Beggars are a little behind too...Here's one from Brazil that takes Credit Cards too!:

I've been approached many times in parking lots. The spiel usually includes a small child, out of gas, of course no money, AND trying to get to Baytown. What's the deal with panhandlers and Baytown. Just curious.

OMG.. I was once approached by a guy who said his friends left him and he needed money to get to Baytown..

When I said no he called me a ***** and stomped off.. lol

I had a guy ask me for 20 dollars to buy gas while pumping my gas at raceway and when I asked him if he wanted some change because I had no paper he stormed off mad. From where the guy said he lived it was not more than 10 or 15 miles.

Many years ago when my step-daughter worked for the Golden Arches in Okla. there was a young man sitting outside with an army duffle bag next to him, asking for money. I told him I wouldn't give him money but if he wanted food I could buy him some. I got him two meals (daughter's discount used) I took it back to him, one for then, one for later. I thought he was going to cry! Also, there's an elderly homeless man that I see downtown some, he never asks for money but if I have some to share I'll give it to him. Again, he never asks!
