I miss my Dad.

He never went to a 4-yr college but he was smarter than any ivy-leaguer I have ever met. He was not an avid hunter or huge gun fanatic, but he taught me that animals were food before pets, when need be, and how to shoot a gun to drop a predator, man or animal, dead.

My dad worked his butt off from blue collar to white, and I remember from the conversations he had with my mother, his peers never let him forget where he came from.

He didn't always show his emotion, probably because he was too worried trying to figure it all out and wanted to spare the ones he loved most.

Quality time with my dad was sparse, and cherished, but never as cherished as now.

I feel like an idiot for having accumulated paper degrees and money in the bank, but not having the moxie to get things done, like a freakin patio. I miss my Dad.

@KPalm Don't be so hard on yourself. My Dad could fix or build anything. I married and couldn't believe my hubby knew nothing about common sense. He's learned but never really had the knack of it. Go to Pinterest and put in what you want to do and there are videos on everything. I'm thinking about building a safe room and there were so many good ideas.

@Greg Thanks. He was an awesomly flawed man. I've gotten so far on what he taught me, I just wish there had been more time.

@KPalm - So sweet. I'm certain your Dad was an awesome man and those that came in contact with him loved him as well - even if they couldn't show it appropriately. Hugs coming your way! Emoticon

@KPalm I am so sorry you are missing your dad. I loved what you wrote about him. I know what it is like to miss a parent. My mom has been gone for 6 years now and my dad lives about 1000 miles away. It is awesome you have such fond memories to fall back on. I know it isn't the same as him being here, but cherish those memories. *hugs*

That was just beautiful. Don't be so hard on yourself you can totally get that patio done. Research and take your time in the end you will be able to set out on your beautiful patio and thank you dad again for instilling determination. I miss my dad everyday I was his only child and his princess at that so he didn't ever let me mow the lawn, change oil or a tire. Thankfully my hubby does these things now. My dad did tell me that I can do anything I set my mind to and without a doubt I know I can figure out how to do anything. When someone has that kind of faith in you how could you ever doubt yourself.

Sorry for your loss as we are dealing with a loss in our family as well. You just have to remember the times spent together and the knowledge he taught you to pass on down to your kids. I am so grateful that there are lots of positive people in both of our families for our kids to learn.

Here's a snip of a song by Marshall Mathers (aka Eminiem) that you may like (from him to his daughter).

Hailie, I know you miss your mom, and I know you miss your dad
When I'm gone but I'm trying to give you the life that I never had
I can see you're sad, even when you smile, even when you laugh
I can see it in your eyes, deep inside you want to cry
'Cause you're scared, I ain't there?
Daddy's with you in your prayers
No more crying, wipe them tears
Daddy's here, no more nightmares
We gon' pull together through it, we gon' do it

@sandman Thank you, I've heard the song but I guess I never really listened to the words... I appreciate this.
