So I'm driving by the new fire Dept

And I see a red pull alarm on the wall which I presume is the fire alarm like in the school hallways.. Which leads to the question, who does it call ?

When I drove by it I saw a gigantic twisty slide? Is that their new pole?

Or was I seeing things because that is a possibility..

I deal with a lot of fire departments in the area and all of them are jealous of ours because of how well we pay our staff and how many toys they have.

My question is why is this? I understand fire protection is necessary but are we overfunding our FVD?

I wonder why they need a pole/slide anyway. I thought that the poles were only for departments that have firepersons sleeping at the station to use as a quick way to get down from the sleeping quarters to the trucks. But, as a volunteer department, do they have anyone sleeping there?

@timbom IMO yes. The building looks great, but my god, how much tax money was wasted on the building just to have something cool? I'd look up what the project cost but I'm sure it would just send my blood pressure through the roof.

Perhaps the fire alarm is for people who drive/walk up to the fire house and have an emergency to alert the folks inside.

@timbom Absolutely wasting our money. Why do we need a 100 ft Ladder Truck? see any sky scrapers in Atascocita? New Station in place of a Metal Frame Station that was already there..why not remodel instead of tear down and replace? Its because the residents in Atascocita are not watching their tax dollars as close as we should be. That department is out of control with their spending.

@B12Fan There is no reason at all we need 3-2 story fire stations and the new so called administration building they just built.

I know of larger cities that have less and have more staff. Why isn't the residents putting their foot down. Every year we are paying taxes through the roof. The amount of 911 calls in Atascocita does not warrant the expenditures our ESD is spending yearly. 3 ambulance/fire stations less than 3 miles from each other is excessive.

Our ESD needs to be frugal with our tax dollars

Have you spent any length of time outside lately and heard how many times a day sirens are dispatched down 1960? Some days I wonder how they have enough manpower to be prepared enough to answer all of these calls.
