Why are there gnats in my house? They are everywhere! Is this a Texas tradition I was not informed of? How do we get rid of them?

I had some a week ago because someone put food in the disposal and did not turn it on. I hadn't seen any, then all of a sudden there was a colony! Still seeing a few here and there and they really make me mad!

Just put out a glass of wine and they will fly into it....that's what happens when I'm drinking, anyway.

Seriously though, put out a small glass of apple cider vinegar and they fly into it.

If you have indoor plants, mix a small amount of dish detergent with water and water the plants. The gnats live in the moist soil and lay eggs. The soap kills them. Do NOT use dishwasher detergent. Use something like Dawn.

I've seen a few around the sink. They like dish soap water. I sprayed mosquito spray at them!

If you have a jar with a lid, punch some holes in the lid. Still use Apple cider vinegar. Once a gnat enters the jar through the little holes, it is harder for them to escape.

I had it happen once when I put a banana in the pantry and forgot about it. I don't put bananas in the pantry anymore.

Sounds like it's fruit fly season again. Bananas are notorious for breeding them. Putting the lid on the garburator helps a lot. The jar with the holy lid works really well to catch them.

If you have fruit out on cabinet. Gnats come sometimes but I don't think it's a Texas normal happening. Something is ripe

We are having the same problem. They must be in the soil for the indoor plants. Not too many, but every once in awhile something small flies by and it's annoying! Emoticon
