Has anyone else noticed Kids (under 16) driving golf carts crazy through the neighborhoods yelling with loud music playing? What happened to riding your bike?

Yes, this has been going on for years. Overloaded with too many kids some even standing up. I live in Atasca Woods and I call Pct 4 every time I see them in Woods or South. Would rather the cops than LifeFlight! Where are their parents?

My thoughts also. When they crash head on into an oncoming car.. no seat belts, no protection...

Not only golf carts but dirt bikes and quads along the bayou! It doesn't bother me that they ride back there as its prob safer than on the street but when they go back and forth 20 times at 2 am right past my bedroom window and wake me up and the dogs go crazy it makes me irritated!!

Golf carts are big business these days. Techically, they have to be within some distance of a golf cart and not driven without a license. I see kids all the time at the beach driving like they know what they are doing. I've been in one when my niece turned it over. Not something a kid should be driving especially in traffic areas with cars.

Many carts and Polaris etc. out where we are. It's pretty common to see young people using them to get around within the neighborhood. The kids are friendly and just listen to music and ride around, usually they have dogs and friends with them. It's OK with me but I certainly understand the concerns that others have. Our area is not gated but it's very very light traffic and everyone goes slow due to deer and horses etc.

Several years ago there was a group of teenaged boys riding around in a golf cart. Two guys were being towed on the back on their skateboards while holding onto ropes tied to the back of the cart. The driver was whipping around corners to make it more fun for the skateboarders. I thought to call the constable, but got distracted by my toddler who desperately needed a diaper change. About 10 minutes later, the kid who was on his skateboard holding onto the back was lying in the street with a closed head injury, bleeding from his ears and nose.....which is very bad. I don't know who they were or if the boy ever recovered. Traumatic brain injuries can be life-alteringly tragic. It haunts me that I could have possibly prevented that, but didn't.

This use to be a really big problem Walden. The cops never did anything about it. I still see a few kids riding around on them, but certainly not like it was 8 or 9 years ago. I guess most of the kids have grown up.

On several occasions, I have seen a boy who is around 13 driving his cart ACROSS 1960 on Pinehurst Trail. It's always late afternoon, I'm sure when his parents are still at work. Parents should hide the keys to these things.

@Haven : This is EXACTLY why we never purchased a golf cart. Use the feet God gave you and stay active.

@Sammee My friend drives his across 1960 to Walden and I think he is nuts. I certainly wouldn't let a kid do it. The Sheriff at the beach would not let my son drive the cart across BlueWater Hwy to the store. They have since allowed the subdivision to make a cart path and only cross with the path. It's not so much the kids but the adults driving their carts.

@Sammee Crossing 1960 at WLHP can result in a non-dissmisable citation. Excess of $200- source: neighbors' experience with their 15 year old son.

Equally as crazy IMO is the stay at home moms who drive their carts to the elementary school to pick up their kids, put three little ones (like 7 and under) in the back row (no belts) and head home going 15 mph. One little bump and the kids are going to tumble. Heads and concrete don't mix.
