Atascocita Forums - Things I don't understand!

How can Stephen king write a book, and make millions off of it, and sell the book for $10. Yet school text books which sell in a greater volumn (so there is the whole qty discount thing working) cost $100+. Who makes that money?

Something else I don't understand, is every year school funding goes up and up and up, by quite abit, yet every year we hear how underfunded they are. How about somebody just sit down, and figure out Exactly how much it would cost to run the freaking thing and we pay that amount. It just seems like no one has a clue why the education system is messed up, but if you just give us mo' money it will help.
Yet a private school, though it cost the parent more money, can somehow teach kids a better education at a cheaper price per student than public, and the goverment doesn't even want to look at how they do it.

Did we ever save the damn trees? back in the 80's and early 90's when plastic bags first came around, you kept hearing all this crap about save the trees, we got to change, or the world will run out of trees. Don't here nothing about it anymore, and I look around kingwood, and see plen tee. So did we save them?

I agree! Not sure about the whole school thing, schools are always in need of money. I am not sure where the money goes but there always seems to be a shortage. The education hasn't changed since I have been teaching, yet the money to fund programs has.
Not sure about the whole tree thing, people recycle more so maybe that has helped slow the talk of saving the trees?

OK, Here is something else I don't understand. Parents that won't eat or drink after their kids because of Germs or what ever, But it's ok to spit on your finger to clean their face.

I don't have a problem eating or drinking after my kids. Not really sure I know anyone who does.
And the spit thing. Well, that's just a parental rite of passage. lol I admit I've had to do it before myself...once when I was at Target with my middle daughter who was about 3 at time and I had to spit-shine chocolate off her face, she yelled, "DON'T PUT YOUR LICK ON ME!" at the top of her lungs.

lol, I know several people that won't eat or drink after there kids. I have even met people that won't drink aftr there own spouse, and I am just confused as to how they had kids if they think drinking after their DW is gross?

Here is something else I don't understand. People that move to Texas, then run around talking about how much they hate it here. Well dumbass, you can always move! Kinda like a lot of the mexicans that live, but brag about how great mexico is. So please explain, mexico is soooo great that you got up and moved? what cause you didn't deserve all the greatness? Like when I was in school, constantly met kids from all over the country that talked about how great it was where they were from. I would ask them, if it was so great? why did you leave? and they would just look at me confused.
I understand parents get job tranfers. happened to me in 8th grade. moved to Tulsa for 2 years. I never even unpacked. I live in Texas cause I love it here.

Wow, born and raised in Tulsa, didn't see a problem with it. But like you said, was tranferred here due to a job. Thing I don't understand is why some people just go on and on about nothing sometimes.

Something else I don't understand. With the new healt care bill, Texas said they could go broke cause of all the new medicaid people they would have to pay for. Oboma said don't worry about it, the federal goverment is going to pay for all the new expenses for the first 3 years, then Texas will start taking on the fanancial resposibility of paying for the new cost.
WOW, so the FEDERAL Goverment is going to give us money upfront. WHERE IN THE HELL DO YOU THINK THE FEDERAL GOVERMENT GETS MONEY FROM?
Really WOW! To help us out Oboma is going to give us back our own freaking money?!
How's about yous just not take it to begin with?!
I mean really people, I admit I didn't go to college, but I am pretty sure that if you take less money from me, the economy in my house will be better, and with my wife, the economy at the stores will be better.

...maybe that's the big plan. Take the money from the credit card and retail companies and give it to the insurance and medical fields. If you have less money to spend you will be driving less, so we'll take that money away from the oil and gas industry too.

Besides, we have illegal immigrants to pay for. Although both parties will support this.
(I actually don't mind helping out those IN NEED of medical attention) But not sure if I agree with the govt. forcing everyone to.

Agree, America is the most compassionate country, but let me decide who I help out, and how much money I want to give. I don't like the goverment literally robbing me at gun point and giving to people that don't really need it.

Here is another one I don't understand. TEACHERS correct me if I am incorrect here. America became a country in 1776 it is now 2010. So 2010 - 1776 = 234. So Ameica is 234 years old
How is it considered America has oppressed blacks for 400 years?

oppressed? They have it better than any other nationality. My niece was refused to a pre-K because she is white(not outspokenly of course) until my mother went out there and pointed out that there is not one single caucasion accepted into the class. The members were not shocked or even surprised at the accusation. They were mad. Literally mad. Since then my brother has moved and my niece does not have to go to school there anymore.
There response was that he should be able to pay for a school. Really? Cause he makes less than 25k a year and has 3 children. Which means they don't get govt. housing assistance.
I think the direction for racial discrimination has changed but is still apparently obvious.

Agree 100% Diver. I also don't understand the term "Reverse Racism" Racism is Racism period, reguardless of the race perpatraiting it. To say reverse racism, makes it sound as if it is perfectly normal for whites to be racist, and abnormal for them to be discriminated against. All I know is now days as a look around at how things are done, I wouldn't mind a big piece of that oppresson.

Here is one for Dr. Bruce, Why do doctors call what they do "Practice" for what I get charged (well what my insurance gets charged) I want someone that knows what they are doing, not just practicing.
