There are many wonderful hotels in NYC. The prices around the holidays can be insane, though. Do you have any particular hotels and/or areas that you're interested in staying in?

We went during the summer and stayed at a Hilton Garden Inn about a block from Times Square. It was a great location--close to Times Square, theaters, etc. The room had a microwave and a small refrigerator. We had a great time!

I see you are "militarybrat". Any connections still with the military? There is a Navy Lodge on Staten Island where you can stay for less than $100 per night. Then catch the ferry over to NYC to see all the touristy stuff.

It's not fancy, but cheap!

I stayed at the Marriott Marquis- Times Square the 2 times I have gone...very nice, and a great location. I can imagine it will be very pricey during the holidays, if there are any vacancies.

Although I think it's a must-go at least once type of place, I am not a big fan of NYC, and probably won't go back. There is a lot to see and do though, and it will probably be freezing!

I love NYC! People there are so friendly, so much stuff to see and do and going at the holidays will be a real thrill. My first trip there (many years ago) was 2 weeks before Christmas. I was walking around with my mouth open the whole time (TOURIST!!TOURIST!!)and fell in love with the city. Never had a bad experience staying there. That being said, space is a premium so you don't typically get as large a hotel room as you might in other places and it is pricey. I've seen some good suggestions here on finding a well priced option so I'll offer one more. Check out the hotels on the Jersey side shoreline close to the station. (There are about a dozeon over there) and simply ride the underground over to the World Trade Center. From there you can take the subway and/or walk to get anywhere you want to go. We did that one summer when we took our motorcycles up for a upstate ride that ended in the city so we would have parking for our bikes. It was perfect.

I loved NYC too. Awesome city, and we found the people very nice. We stayed at the Times Square Doubletree and walked or road the subway everywhere. Can't wait to go back one day.

Thank you sooo much! Well, we booked near La Guardia due to the fact that they provide FREE transportation to and from the airport. Not to mention another FREE shuttle service to the nearest subway that runs into Manhattan. (I went with Lana's idea) thnxs...Texastbird62 "BEDBUGS", now you have me scratching before the trip even begins!!! lol
