Two Area Murder-Suicides Overnight
Police discovered two separate apparent murder-suicides in the area on Thursday evening.
The first incident discovered involved firefighter Richard Deluna, 40, and his girlfriend Caroline Minijares, 35. The tragedy occurred in a residence in the 16600 block of Lake Prince Lane at Smith Lake in the Waters Edge neighborhood in Atascocita. A relative suspected that something was wrong when Minijares never showed up to pick up her daughter. Around 6:45 p.m., the family member stopped by the home to check on her, and noticed signs of a disturbance. She was found stabbed to death on the floor of a bathroom near the entryway of the residence. Deluna was subsequently, in the bedroom, where he had hanged himself. Minijares was allegedly trying to leave Deluna, which may have been the trigger for this deadly encounter. Minijares is survived by her two young daughters. Her five year old had graduated kindergarten just that day.
A few hours later in nearby Kingwood, another couple was found in the second apparent murder-suicide of the evening. In this case, the elderly couple lived in Kingwood, in the 5400 block of Knoll Terrace near Shady Maple. The two individuals had been shot. Their bodies were found in the couple's bedroom by a family member around 10:30 p.m. The Houston Police Department believes that the husband fatally shot his wife, and then turned the gun on himself. The cause of the shooting is unknown. The names of the deceased have not yet been released to the public. Both the husband and the wife were in their 70's.
