Should a person be called in and bashed for not wanting decorations in their work space/area? A co-worker placed decorations inside another co-workers "cube" and the co-worker removed the "cut out of scrap paper from the waste basket" decorations. The boss called the co-worker in a private office and give them a bashing for removing the decorations!!! They weren't asked if they wanted the decorations to begin with, the person just took it upon herself to decorate everyone's "cube". Everyone has their own beliefs on how they do Christmas and some don't get into the decorating as much as others. If it's your own personal work space I think they should have asked before placing the homemade cutouts in the area. I use homemade loosely as she did the cutting out at her desk on company time! What are your opinions on how the boss handled it? Should she have called my co-worker in and bashed them on the removal of said paper cutouts???

I don't think anyone had the right to go into another person's space & decorate it . Would this person go to their home & decorate it ?She must think people will like her little surprise for them & she most likely wanted to do a little something for everyone ., or was it 1 person ? I think the boss is wrong wrong wrong to even voice an opinion on this . Is this subject under job description for the boss ?

The paper cutouts were placed EVERYWHERE in the area. On picture frames, on coatracks, on our nameplates covering our names, on computer screens, it looks terrible!! the paper used was from the printer and had emails, acctg reports etc on them so it looked stupid in my opinion. I just really think the manager handled it wrong too by calling in the co-worker, she should have explained to the girl that not everyone gets into the holiday decorating like she was getting into it.

If company policy allows, the decorator can decorate the common areas and their area if they choose. Co-worker cubicles are off limits unless they agree or someone comments they'd like you to decorate theirs or they wish they had decorations (basically complimenting and you offer to decorate said area). The boss has no right to discipline the employee for removing decorations. Improper management behavior.

I told the co-worker to let HR know what happened so there would be a record of it in the file for any future problems but she said she was going to drop it. I still think the manager was out of line! think she bashed the wrong employee!!! IMO only!!! I'm more mad about it than my friend so I can't let it go but I'm trying!!! Emoticon

Agree whole heartedly with @palm springs & @goldie1959. I believe the decorator and the boss were both out of line.

I can't imagine any boss I ever had becoming involved in something like that.
