Why are they zoning the kids that will be living in Bridges on Lake Houston to SummerCreek High School??? Atascocita High School is literally across the street!

AHS is already at capacity and SCHS has plenty of room for growth

True, I just don't see why they would have the whole neighborhood go to SCHS. A main part of it goes past the bridge. I just would have though the part that didn't would still go to AHS.

AHS does not have the room. Walk the halls between classes some time. Builders do not care about school population when they build. It does not matter to them that the closest school to their new development is full.

Remember back when Fall Creek was new and all those parents were whining and crying that their kids would have to go to HHS when they were told by the builder they would be zoned to AHS. What a cluster that was. Whiners got their way and those kids were bused over 12 miles to AHS instead of 5 miles to HHS. (Until SCHS opened up)

They just need to build a new high school already! That would solve a lot of problems with overcrowding.

They should have built KPHS as a larger school and put more students from KW there. Then all of Atascocita north of 1960 to KHS and they would have had more room at AHS.

@BusyMommy:

HELL NO! They wanted to do that back when the Fall Creek whiners were complaining. I stood up at one of the community town halls regarding the zoning and said it was ridiculous to move kids to KHS just so some cry-baby parent didn't have to send their child to an "underpriviledged school" (their words, not mine.). Do you have any idea what it would be like for those kids to have to go to KHS. (or visa versa). Would you have wanted to be rezoned to your rival HS when you were a student? Those who live outside the bubble....

And no, we don't need another HS right now. SCHS and HHS are not at capacity. New schools cost money and more homes do not bring the tax dollars in that are needed for those. Hopefully Generation Park businesses will give us some much needed tax revenue for schools.

It is up to the adults in a community to do what is best for students and taxpayers. High school rivalries should not be used to make important educational and financial decisions.

The district is planning on doing yet another high school again. Also at least one more middle school and a few more elementary schools as well.

Like others said about The Bridges - yes it's closer to AHS and one day it may indeed feed to AHS. But for now SCHS has the space.

I know its not always fun but in an area like ours that is still filling out boundary lines need to be redrawn often. (yes, I understand the frustration as a home owner.)

The solution is, if you want your child to attend a certain school buy a home that is zoned to that school. It will probably be 5 years before another HS is built in HISD and I doubt it will help with the enrollment at AHS. My understanding is that it would be down near the beltway/Fall Creek area but I may be wrong. It may rezone some of the AHS kids that live further west. My crystal ball is in the shop though so will let you know when it is fixed. Emoticon

Where do you come up with SCHS being at capacity? It is the same size as AHS but only has about 2300 students. Can accommodate 3200.

SCHS should be able to accomidate more than 3200.

AHS has between 3100-3200 currently, and is at capacity.. SCHS is larger than AHS.. their gold house has 2 stories.. AHS is just 1 story.

What about HHS? That school is a ghost town and has several rooms (halls) not being used...

Both AHS and SCHS are 435,000 SF.

Didn't AHS have close to 5k students at one time?? Emoticon
