I don't know about y'all but I get so sick of these stupid political ads every election cycle. The typical one goes something like this -

My opponent Jan Doe loves to let her dog poop in others people's yard causing the homeowner distress in having to remove the poop. Well if you elect me, I will make sure no dog poops in anyone's yard, especially yours. I'm Jack Crap and I approved this message - You will note he never says just HOW he would keep the dog from pooping in your yard.

Another tactic is using the President whom is generally unpopular in a red state such as ours. Hi my name is John Q. Public and I'm running for county spider control commissioner, if you elect me I will make sure Obama's policies are stopped dead in their tracks. I will stand up for you! - Now I ask myself what the hell does Barack Obama have anything to do with a local election for county spider control commissioner?

My conclusion to this is they think the majority of people are just stupid, dumb, unintelligent, and ignorant to simply vote for a candidate because they use buzz words like Obama or tactics like I'll do better than her but never explaining how.

The irony is there's a campaign team or operatives for the candidate that have done research and determined in their opinion that a lot of people are in fact stupid, dumb, unintelligent, and ignorant. Some people are fond of saying elections have consequences - yes they do.

They are gross. The fact that people (evidently??) are still influenced by them is sad.

OK, so this would make their "target audience" the Republican/Conservative base....

And this would show what they think about the average person in the "target audience"....

Unfortunately...........

It works!.....Which serves as the final "proof" doesn't it?

@EddyFree:

When it comes to Obama I absolutely agree with what you said about the target audience. As for the other tactic of not explaining just how he/she would go about doing something the opponent is not, that's one that both parties use.

Like you said, very unfortunate.

If dog poop in you yard is the biggest thing you have to worry about then you are living in a better world than I am. Hopefully that was just a poor example of a political ad.

@OilfieldCamo:

It was meant to be satire in regards to political ads. I'm surprised you couldn't see that. I suppose you think there's a commissioner of county spider control too. You obviously missed the larger point I was making.

*Edit*

BTW my satire of the situation is not too far removed from the BS that's out there now.

I get a kick out of the Greg Abbott mother-in-law one. No real policy info or bashing just if she likes him as a son-in-law then we'll like him as a governor.

I think it reflects on what agenda they have to run on.

Take Williams. With all the adds she is running, and with less than two weeks to election, the only thing I know about her is that she married her husband then dumped him after law school, she filibustered a bill on abortion in the Texas Congress and she doesn't want to give standardized tests to 5 year olds. I really do not know anything else about her.

If she even has a prayer of getting my vote, I need to know more. But, she doesn't seem to have an agenda to run on.

Wendy Davis wheelchair ad was incredibly ruthless....
She has no chance.....

And no, she was not a struggling mother living in a trailer park going through Harvard.....
She had a sugar daddy, watching HER KID .... And as soon as he paid off her college loans dumped his *** and ran to Texas.......
That's all I need to know about her

@daddyo9:

I think this one is pandering to the Hispanic vote, showing he has Hispanics in his family, even though they are in-laws...I'd bet his wife didn't want to get involved so the Mother-In-Law was his next best choice, just a guess though....Probably wants to give the impression that he understands the concerns of Hispanics...I doubt it, except for those few Hispanics that happen to be wealthy...

@EddyFree:

Considering how many blended white and Hispanic families there are in the state of Texas....i think the ad is very good.

Pandering would indicate one would be sacrificing positions in order to placate to a certain group....this is not pandering, but it is definitely targeted politics....he must be running for public office of some sort.

I wouldn't go as far as sacrifice....Maybe bend or realign positions...But not abandon....

No doubt....Who knows, maybe they'll fall for it....
