Why wouldn't someone have photo id? Even if you don't have a driver's license, you can get a state id at 18.

Some will say requiring an ID places a burden on the less that capable.

What would you think about their ability to use good judgment if they can't find a way to get an ID?

I agree - If they are not capable of acquiring an ID they should not be allowed to vote.

Just another excuse - period.

Oh,I don't disagree, I think there is truly no valid reason for NOT having a photo id. It's not that hard.

Funny how many who whine about not having the ability/knowledge to attain a legal ID are certified experts in getting around the red tape sometimes required to suck on the government teat for way longer than they're welcomed to. Oh, wait...I forgot. They're welcomed to as long as they please these days! Emoticon

Convenient. Emoticon I can't even buy cold medicine containing Pseudoephedrine without an ID, but any idiot or felon or derelict of society can help vote our country's next leaders into office without one.

Huh.

I really can't understand anyone not having an ID. Even the elderly and poor and immobile.

BUT that said, does anyone really believe that requiring IDs will actually stop willfull fraud? And what's worse...will it stop either side of believing and claiming voter fraud against the other?

Nope.

All Citizens should have the right to vote...Unfortunately, in a "melting pot" type of open country like ours, it's not always clear as to who is an actual Citizen...

I'd be against having to pay anything(including buying an ID) in order to cast a vote...This would basically be the old poll tax revisited...

However, after looking at the way the Texas requirement is structured, it offers the option of getting an "Election Identification Certificate" from the DPS which is FREE and only requires one show any of several documents proving their citizenship...

All things considered, this approach sounds reasonable to me...

Here's some really informative links for those who'd like more info:

Required Identification for Voting in Person(Tex.Sec. Of State Site)

Election Identification Certificate (EIC) (DPS website)

@HumbleGirl:

A legal ID requirement would be a start. You don't think so? Many of our "citizens" currently vote without anyone knowing who's blindly punching those ballot buttons. If anything, this is a deterrent for a large majority who have no business at the polls. Not perfect, but better than nothing.

Frauds/scammers/illegals/criminals will always be everywhere. Weed them out little by little. It's not that difficult. We're all pretty much sunk right now with the current state of affairs and it'll take a great deal of effort to dig our way out. I've accepted that. Emoticon

It's all of our children's and grandchildren's futures that I'm more concerned about preserving at this point. That's a stressful position to be in. At least for me. Emoticon

This is so much Ka Ka you can still vote even if you have no ID. You just get a provisional ballet which needs to be verified at a latter date.

It is still an official ballot and counts if it checks out.
