Afghanistan signed a security agreement with the US. The Taliban are not happy. This makes me happy.We will keep 2 bases and some 10,000 troops to “train” the Afghans. This really means that we will advise and probably fight to keep the Taliban out of power and not have another Iraq on our hands.Some will blame the Iraq debacle on Obama but when a sovereign nation says it is time to go there is not much you can do about that. Iraq has learned that lesson the hard way.Syria is another place were there really are no good options. So many bad actors it is extremely difficult to train and equip proxies that will not turn on you. The religious and political differences and goals of individual nations in the region make for a toxic stew.
