Oh Iguana Joes... will you ever recover after being shut down by the health department?

A food safety lawyer has filed a suit against the company on September 12th 2014 on behalf of his client who's 9 year old child came down with salmonella after eating at the restaurant in June of 2013, right before they were shut down.

This is the second lawsuit against the restaurant. They also received another ‘extremely high risk’ assessment by county health officials as recently as May of 2014.

This lawsuit is from the incident that happened back in June 2013. Nothing new here. The violations that are mentioned in the article are not abnormal, believe it or not. In fact if you look on the HCPHES website you will see that restaurants all over Harris county have similar violations. "Cross contamination" can mean a wide variety of things including having an un-opened box of hamburger meat on the wrong shelf which is what happened in this case. Other restauraunts in our zip code alone that have been cited for cross contamination include Hasta LaPasta, China KO, IHOP, Las Ramadas, Ling's Buffet, Manuel Mexican Restaurant and that's just to name a few. 10 -14 demerits are not "horrendous." In fact a restaurant would have to be cited for 20 or more demerits just to warrant a follow up inspection. Why did HCPHES renew the permit through May 2015 if this was so "horrendous"? Especially given what happened in June 2013? "The Observer " is dragging this establishment through the mud a year and three months later because some national personal injury attorney is filing a suit. You can like the food or service or not at Iguana Joe's but they are not putting the public at risk.
