DD starts gymnastics along with her cheerleading this fall. She went on a field trip to Juergen's this summer & fell in love. Anyone else have any experience with them? How did their classes work? (She'll be 8 next month.) What are their prices like?? Anyone have any experience elsewhere? Same questions- how did it work, when were classes, & prices? Thanks!

Do you want tumbling or full gymnastics? We did Rowland Ballard and paid about $70 a month for a one hour class. We never got beyond that, but as they move up in the level system they spend more hours a week and the price goes up. I think tumbling just stays at one hour per week.

Just FYI- make sure you have good medical insurance, the risk of injury is really high.

@BusyMommy:

I'm honestly not really sure what the difference is between tumbling & full gymnastics, or what full gymnastics really entails. I guess I'm taking to the message boards to hopefully gather some of that info from parents who have first hand experience so I don't feel like such a fish out of water when I actually discuss everything with the folks at Juergen's or RB because those are the 2 highest recommended. Was the $70 you paid for full gymnastics or just tumbling? And was it a one hour class once a week or how did that work? Thanks so much!

And she's been in dance since she was 2, cheered since she was 4, started soccer last year, & is a cartwheel-a-holic. Good medical insurance is a MUST! Lol. DH works for Memorial Hermann & we have great insurance through them, so we're prepared. Thanks.

Tumbling is just the handsprings and flips and stuff on the floor, the full gymnastics includes the beam, bars, and vault. We did full gymnastics, one hour a week for a school year until she changed her mind.

Oh, and this was like 5 years ago, so I would bet the prices are higher today.

What made her change her mind?

@BusyMommy:

I've only got one child & am no longer paying $640/mo for summer daycare! Lol. Her cheer company is a little less than half of what we were paying for her dance company, & my parents volunteered to pay for her uniform & up front cheer expenses this season. I imagine you're probably right about inflation but I doubt it's anything I'll say no to. When I remind myself that I'm no longer spending $640/mo, (on top of cheer! Because she did cheer this summer, too!) well, that realization has just broadened our price range a bit. We've heard great things about both R.B. & Juergen's though & I feel like the the gymnastics & cheer is a pretty winning combo so I'm glad it's what she's chosen. Again, thanks for all the info.

My daughter started going to Juergens for about two or so years when she was four.

She loved it. The kids instructors were great.

She just started goofing off more than she should have, so we just dropped it...

My DGD was at Rowlands for 3 years fall and spring sessions. She started off with simple tumbling. (The basics of gymnastics really) and made the Stars Team last year. We loved the instructors and the front office at Rowland Ballards and believe they work hard with the kids at all ages. They are also very hands on and loving with the little ones to encourage them which I appreciated since ours was 3 when she started.

My observations from working and attending meets with area gyms was that the girls from most other gyms were not as well prepared and did not score nearly as well as the Rowlands teams. That includes Juergens. I don't anything else about them - just seeing them with their teams at meets and seeing a big difference in the level of their participation.
