Wow, vigilante justice, I have to do some more reading on this but I found this as a shock.

I am unaware of all the facts in this case. But as a Mother I will say, I could never have convicted this man knowing he lost two children to the drunk driver whom they claim he shot. The man will grieve the rest of his life over those children and the what-if's. What if the truck had not broken down? What if I had not asked the kids to help me push the truck? What if I had left the kids home with their Mom?

If he received a prison sentence the Mother would have been left to grieve the loss of her entire family.

All I can say is I don't know what I would have done in his place. To see both of my sons killed in front of me. I would have gone crazy for sure and to find out that it was a drunk driver on top of that. I know the right thing is to let the law take care of it but the feelings that you would have, after watching all that in front of you. Rage and Anger!!!! Just so sad.

They could of had a video of him pulling the trigger with a signed confession and I still would not have found him guilty.....

Good for him

It's not as if he went searching for the guy for revenge. It was a crime of passion, and, more justifiable being his two babies than other cases I've heard.

If I saw, GOD FORBID, my babies killed... I witnessed an obvious drunk behind the wheel...

I'd bare hand rip his throat out...

He deserved to go to trial, it WAS a crime. The verdict was spot on.

Wtg, jurors. I'm sorry for the family of the guy, but, let's be real here. This guy was more likely to kill behind the wheel again. Dad is not likely to murder again.

Vigilante justice? Shocked at a non guilty verdict?

The prosecution failed misserably here... couldn't produce the weapon, so obviously couldn't pin it on Barajas, the two potential eye-witnesses left the scene, so, all circumstancial and enough reasonable doubt. Can't see why anyone expected a different outcome.

@West-tex:
I agree and this is the main reason I would not keep a loaded gun at the ready personally. Mistakes can be made in periods of high emotion.

Thinking of the officer who was laid to rest today...maybe in his moment of despair had he not had a gun right there, maybe he would have thought about it longer and seen a reason to live in his children and loved ones...

I kind of wonder if these "mistakes" aren't intentional on the states part...

Prosecute him because you HAVE to, lose because you can...

@HumbleGirl:

Or maybe he would have used a knife... or a belt... or a plastic bag... or some pills... or who knows what...

The gun didn't kill him... he killed himself.

I am happy this guy gets to walk away. He may be innocent but he can never really be free.
Poor guy the thought of losing one of mine makes me crazy. I really hope he can find peace in his heart.
