I am looking to do some volunteer work and need some ideas on the best places to do so. If you are aware of good places or opportunities, please let me know.

If you are an animal person, the shelters would be fun. And Cypresswood Horse stables trades riding and lessons for volunteer work.

Kids - Big Brother, Big Sister and volunteering in the schools

Sports - volunteer on a youth sports board - pick your favorite sport and roll up your sleeves

Lots of local historical associations (like the ladies club that plans the Humble Christmas parade) and political orgs.

Just depends on where your interests lie.

If you have a heart for children - look into being a Child Advocate. You'll have to take a course, need a clean background (not implying you wouldn't!) and then you'll get sworn in as an officer of the court. You basically become the voice of the child while their case in the court system. Usually custody type things. Mom and/or Dad might be in prison, could be abuse situations. Very rewarding work if you have the time.

There are so many ways to volunteer your time.

Poor Sandman. Who is supposed to take care of you? I have a so many wonderful ideas. Now I have to research each of them. Love the Child Advocate ( and yes I have a clean record) but that one would be tough on my heart, yet completely rewarding I suspect. Thanks to everyone for the great Iideas!
