CONROE, Texas – Authorities are searching for a father who is accused of abandoning his injured infant son at the scene of a rollover accident Sunday night in Montgomery County, DPS said.
According the Texas Department of Public Safety, it happened around 10:30 p.m. on East Williams Road and South Williams Road in northern Montgomery County.
Authorities had received a call at that time of a single vehicle rollover. When crews arrived at the scene, they found a 5-month-old boy lying in the road face down and bleeding.
Officials said the child had been ejected from a Ford Fusion, which was upside down about 20 feet away.
PHI Air Medical transported the infant to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston. His condition has not been released.
Investigators said that it all started when the child’s father and mother had an altercation. He left with the baby traveling at a high rate of speed in the Fusion.
The father was heading east on East Williams when he lost control of the Fusion as he approached South Williams.
The Fusion left the roadway and struck a mailbox. The vehicle then began to flip ending up on its roof.
That is when the child was ejected from the vehicle. The infant was found face down and bleeding by a passerby.
The child’s father had fled the scene of the accident before the mother arrived in a separate car.
The man involved in the accident has not been identified.
DPS is continuing their investigation and will release additional details in the morning.
