Our crime rate is so low, it probably doesn't even make the list.

I dunno...Looks like a poorly written piece about an incomplete study...First, the title "Two Houston neighborhoods called most dangerous in U.S." is beyond simply misleading as the two communities aren't #1 and #2 on this list...As it says shortly into the article:
"First, the terrible news: Two Houston communities are ranked AMONG the nation's 25 most dangerous neighborhoods, according a new study..."

And of course, it ends with the "eyebrow-raising" revelation:
"Curiously, New York, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C. and other large cities are missing from NeighborhoodScout's list. In fact, the entire western half of the country doesn't show up at all, according to MSN Money."

I'm not buying it....Emoticon

FYI - from recent article

Between 1993 and 2012, the violent crime rate (homicide, robbery, rape and aggravated assault) in the United States dropped by 48 percent. During the same period, the violent crime rate in New York City dropped by 71 percent. In 1993, violent crime in New York accounted for nearly 9 percent of all violent crimes reported in the United States, it's now slightly above 3 percent of all U.S. violent crime, which is roughly the proportion of New York City's population within the country as a whole.

Statistically:

Chicago, Illinois has a murder rate that seems to be increasing yearly and a major reason is because of the crime that happens in the North Auburn Gresham neighborhood. This neighborhood which occupies the 60620 zip code has a violent crime rate of 73.5 per 1,000 residents. The chances of becoming a victim in this section are 1 in 14, which is actually on the low side for many of Chicago's rougher areas. The entire south side of Chicago seems to be an evil playground that won't stop its madness until the whole city is engulfed in violence.

Next on the list is two more neighborhoods in Chicago, then East St. Louis, Baltimore and so on.

The Chronicle is a rag. NO research by anyone there. They'll print anything much like the other highly cited rag USA Today.

I am sure you can pull up statistics for just about anything. However, the report I used was sorted by zip code, then captured violet crime rates and factored that by population in that zip code.

The Next 4 on the list are:
#2
Northeast Auburn Gresham in Chicago is by far one of the most dangerous places in America. The zip code of 60620 in Illinois has a violent crime rate of 116.56 per 1000 people.
#3
You shouldn't be surprised seeing another Chicago neighborhood on this list. This time it's the Washington Park neighborhood, which occupies the 60637 zip code. This area has a violent crime rate of 65.77 per 1,000 residents.
#4
The Flint, Michigan neighborhood northeast of East Atherton and South Dort Highway has a violent crime rate of 70.5 per 1,000 residents.
#5
Crime may be on the way down in North Lawndale, but not enough . Currently Chi-Raq is the murder capital of the US and North Lawndale has too many of them happening in their area for its own good. The 60623 zip code has a violent crime rate of 80.17 per 1,000 residents.

#6 Is not a Houston Neighborhood either it's Woodside, Greenville, SC.

So, IDK where the Chron gets their stories. The other thing I've notices here of late is that they are constantly running stories out of San Antonio. Like we've become sister cities all the sudden. Whoever owns the Chronicle needs to pick up damn map of Texas.

Sad...Chicago simply fell apart after Obama left....I hope the country won't do the same thing after he leaves in 2016...Who knows? Maybe Hillary will be able to hold it together until 2024....Loading Image...
