Atascocita Boys Graduating After a Baseball Game :

twitter.com/official _AHS/status/47077550 2345875456/photo/1

For those who do not know the story behind this photo:

Our Eagles played Game 3 of the Regional Semi-Finals in Belton at 1:00 Saturday. They won the game and series with a walk off sacrifice fly by Senior Ethan Kloesterboer that allowed Senior Ryan Wadkins to score. The game ended at 3:20. The whole team climbed on the bus and drove, with parents following, straight to Reliant. Although us parents had discussed the possibility of this happening, no official plans were made. As soon as Reliant was alerted that the bus was coming in, they cleared a gate for them and allowed the entire team to enter through the service door straight onto the floor of Reliant. The underclassmen made a tunnel for the Seniors as they entered the stadium and then ran in behind the Seniors.

In the stands were all of the coaches, most of the parents, and the entire team to cheer on and celebrate this night with their teammates, mentors, and brothers. The boys graduated at the end, together to very load cheers from their baseball family. They each "Supermanned" their gowns to show their jerseys beneath as they crossed the stage.

It was an unbelievable night that still brings tears to my eyes.

Now this team is only 2 wins from the State tournament. So if you have the opportunity, please take a road trip this Thursday, Friday, or Saturday to Concordia University in Austin to cheer on your Eagles.

One thing that alot of people don't know about is how these young men give of their time to help handicapped kids experience the joy of Baseball during the Humble Baseball Austin Reinits spring and fall season. Coach Matthews pitches to each of these kids till they can hit the ball in fair territory and aided by a player that helps them round the bases till they touch home plate. If Coach Matthews ever gets an out He will have an ERA of Astronomic proportions. They did this as late as last week to give these kids joy that you can only know seeing it. The young man in the back right of the picture wearing the grad cap (Hunter Stevenson) even coached last year. I have nothing but admiration for their efforts while becoming one of the final 8 teams left in the state.

Go Eagles!!!!

If you want to "watch" the game, go to texanlive.com tomorrow evening at 8:00. They stream all of our games and are great supporters of the program and HISD athletics.

If you aren't able to make it to Austin for the game, the boys would still love to know that you are behind them. You can send a message to their twitter account, AHS_5aBaseball . One of the boys runs the account. There is also an Atascocita High School Baseball Facebook page and an AHS Baseball event FB page.

They feed off of the support from the community. I remember my son saying how it meant to them to have standing room only for their first playoff game.

These are great youngmen who have a strong faith and huge hearts. Please keep them in your thoughts. Pray they will have a safe trip to Austin, that they will believe and trust in the talents that God has given them, and that they will remember He made them to be amazing.
