Wow. Hmm. Powdered alcohol for drinks, food, and snorting? Legal.

Saw this on the afternoon news and thought hmmmm...what a great idea for cruise packing! No need to load up the large sized bottles of Listerine and plastic packables with Vodka and what-not.

Could have saved me hundreds on a trip I took with my youngest son and one of his besties that stuck me with a $900 surprise.

Missed the part about snorting.

I'm waiting for the non-fattening, powdered alcohol.

This gives a whole new meaning for a 'dry drunk'.

The repercussions for the bar industry will be huge. I picture these like how Mio or Crystal Light is for water...would save folks a fortune to use these at the bar or sports stadium.

Underage drinkers won't have to search for places to hide bottles.

Ah lawd....didn't even think of that.

Just tap a bit into your Bahama Bucks beverage and party on. (I just found out today they already provide the umbrella!)

I wonder if it leaves the smell of alcohol on your breath. If not, the underage crowd will have a heyday! They like finding ways to get drunk without any physical signs other than the drunkenness.

I don't like this idea at all.

Another thing that concerns me is this would be a convenient setup for unscrupulous adults to resell to kids.

Well that was a short lived concern.

Powdered alcohols no longer have label approvals

Ummmm. That'd be a Trum. Sounds like a potential good mix if they still make Tang. I'm thinkinking Tang and Vodka perhaps. Sounds like an astronaut beverage.

Apparently, the approval reversal was only about the labeling. Still a good chance it'll ultimately be approved for legal sale, but the approval will be on a state-by-state basis. I hope Texas isn't one of them! We have enough dumb drunks on the roads here.

I think this has to go down as potentially the most destructive corporate product ever. This is dumb on so many levels it's hard to list them all. But let me start with underage drinking as some have already mentioned. Kids are sneaking alcohol now that's not easily concealable. So you're going to provide a product that makes it not only more convenient for them but that can be hidden just about anywhere?

Secondly, even if a state like Texas bans the powdered substance but the state of Louisiana approves it how are you going to police that? A driver for instance could hide the substance in another powdered beverage container and the police wouldn't know the difference. I suppose someone would have to come up with a powdered drink tester to detect the alcohol. If that technology is not available now it could be years before it hits the market.

Third, if alcohol is made more readily available and cheap it's safe to assume more people will be drinking it. That brings the high probability of more drunk drivers on the road which will by extension increase the number of people killed by them. The only deterrent I can think of for such incidences is mandatory sentencing of at least 50 years in prison. It might make some think about the consequences a little more before they get behind the wheel.

Certainly the inventors of this product stand to make billions of dollars. But at what cost? Yes they and their investors will be quite wealthy but what about the overall impact on society? Not only that but we live in a sue happy nation. So I can already foresee the thousands of lawsuits that will be filed clogging the already over burdened justice system by people who will makes claims of negligence.

Finally I can already hear the arguments about our various freedoms and that the makers of this stuff have a right to bring it to market. But to me some ideas are so potentially damaging to society they should remain that, just ideas.

Teens/underage dummies will always find a way to get drunk without being caught. There was a trend that started on college campuses several years ago where girls would soak tampons in grain alcohol (Everclear) and insert before classes. No alcohol breath and straight to the bloodstream!
