Texan Daniel Athens will not soon forget the Alamo.
A judge on Monday sentenced the 23-year-old El Paso resident to 18 months in a state jail for urinating on the historic landmark.
The incident took place two ago when Athens was caught relieving himself on the front wall of the Alamo shrine.
This past February, Athens had pleaded guilty to felony criminal mischief in exchange for a deal that capped his possible punishment at 18 months.
The crime usually is punishable by up to two years behind bars.
Athens was also ordered to pay $4,000 in restitution — the cost of repairing the damage done to the fragile limestone facade of the 250-year-old Catholic mission building.
Just before 9.30pm on April 14, 2012, an Alamo Ranger spotted Mr Athens standing in a restricted area of the shrine and 'making the motions of putting his penis back in his pants,' according to the arrest report cited by The Smoking Gun.
The officer also noticed that there was a puddle on the mortar of the building.
The El Paso man appeared drunk, reeked of alcohol and was unsteady on his feet.

More costly to get drunk and pee on the Alamo than to drive drunk.
