Hello,
I work at a hospital which often lends me to shifts of all hours. Every time I come home after midnight and before sunrise, there is a suspicious person walking/lurking/creeping in the unlit areas of our neighborhoods. I have contacted the police department at least a dozen time to report suspicious activity. They are great but why, why, why are we leaving our lights off to attract those with less than pure intentions?

Outdoor lights can be one of the most significant deterrents for burglary, home invasions, and other theft. Please turn them on!!!

Encourage your neighbors to turn on all port lights. We need to do this people!

I can't imagine anyone who goes to bed without their outside lights/motion detectors on. Common sense!

Thanks for the reminder for those who think they're bullet-proof.

I'm an energy conserver. No lights on at my house at night. One small led nightlight in the kitchen.

Maybe it's just me but I'm the opposite...I think having lights on make a potential criminal's job much easier since they can see to do their "dirty work"...Without light, the criminal will have to either use a flashlight which is a BIG giveaway to anyone watching from afar, OR they will have to "feel their way" and become clumsy, bumbling, and noisy at what they are trying to do since they can't see well...That noise will probably alert me where I can introduce them to "my little friend"...Not to mention that *I* know my property/house much better than a stranger would, therefore I have the advantage in the dark...

If I'm going to rob I'm going to the dark house not the one that is lighted up, but then again I'm not a criminal so who knows.

most thieves wiil scope out the home during daylight hours, thus know were everything is. I have motion sensors that will turn on lights and a bell or horn that will sound. They reset after a few minutes. The sound will deter any thief from staying around. Also I have an autodialer that will call my cell phone if motion is detected. Along with security cameras that I can view on the computer when notified. This set up has worked on a number of occasions for me. I have video of the thief sneaking around, and when the lights and horn come on, they run like scared rabbits.

@Ronnie:

is it something you put together yourself or a packaged deal?

@EddyFree: that's ridiculous. Almost as ridiculous as don't wear your seatbelt so you can be thrown clear of the accident. You cannot be serious.

To the OP - what neighborhood do you see this person or persons? Same person all the time?
Maybe time to do a George Zimmerman impersonation.

I put it together myself. Bought the motion sensor at Lowes and the auto dialer on e-bay( $29.00) The set up is at my meat market (Verons).Be glade to show it to you, come by and take a look at it, simple and easy to put together.
