So I'm finally getting a new vehicle. I've had all mine and boat paid off a few years now, but it's time to get something shiny and new. I earned a good bonus and am paying for the rest with a 401k loan so I won't need a standard loan. It'll be like paying cash.

However I can't decide which one? I prefer only American made. We've owned Fords since our first vehicle purchase and so we wanted to try a GM or Chevy but it's hard making the switch. The Fords are gorgeous. So are the GMs. And then we looked at Dodge, awesome too. And so many colors and trim options and interiors...seemed like every one I looked at I liked.

Any recommends?

my preference would be GMC if looking for american.

my first choice would be the tundra it is made right in San Antonio made by texans.

I know it's none of my businessbut if you can get a credit union loan vs 401k loan it would be much better for you

Well.. we are a ford family too.. a few years back we switched to a dodge and hated every second of it. We had nothing but issues with it the entire time. We recently just switched back to Ford and will never get a
Dodge again.

Now, we also inherited a gmc sierra.. it's an older model but we love it! It's been a really great truck and your right, the new sierra trucks are beautiful!

Good luck.. New cars and new car shopping is so much fun!

@757beach: I hear ya but I only want to owe myself $. Plus I like getting the car title right up front. And I usually pay them off years early.

Love our loaded Ford 4-Door. Middle son had a Dodge for about 8 months and just traded it in for a Toyota. The Dodge was a POS. Something going wrong every other week it seemed.

Good friends just bought another new loaded 4 Door Tundra and it's so nice we might trade the Ford in for one. Really nice. Other son just bought a Toyota Dacoma, also really nice, great gas mileage.

Seems like Toyota is putting some very nice features into their trucks these days.

Just don't get a Dodge. They're crap with notoriously terrible transmissions!

You know my answer…Easiest question to answer ever…One you still have the Ford that never let you down.
I have a service company for 27 years and all we drive are Fords both personal and for work. When a customer calls and ask if we can respond immediately we do not hesitate to say yes because we have a reliable Ford Fleet. If we drove a Dodge or GM product we would have to say maybe…

@brightlights:

YES!! That's exactly what happened to our dodge and it was less than 5 years old! The $$ to fix it was crazy so we dumped it and went back to Ford.

My preference has been fords - but test drive a couple different makes before deciding. Last time I was sure I was going to buy a ford; but the price was high; dealer didn't want to negotiate; and the truck was pretty basic;

crossed the street to chevy dealer who had a fully loaded model on the lot & cut price drastically before I ever started trying to negotiate - still have that vehicle 11 years later & really like it.

As beach said - Toyota makes a good truck - which is built in San Antonio.

My Dodge product was built in Canada. HA!

I just bought a new truck right after Christmas. I looked at Chevy, Dodge, Toyota, and Ford. For the money hands down Ford was the best deal. More options, better quality - and they didn't take a penny from the government,

The Toyota was very nice but you had to spend $10K more to get what the Ford had to offer.
Chevy was plastic and cheap looking all over the interior.
Dodge was nice but not as nice.
Ford won hands down.
