I'm surprised there isn't yet a thread about Phil getting suspended from the show for anti-gay comments in a GQ magazine interview...

So what did he say in the GQ article?

Not that it matters much; but it may at least provide context. More misguided political-correctness. Actors are people with opinions as much as anyone else; while they are entitled; they are not guaranteed employment; so I suppose if an employer sees the comments as damaging to the product they are selling; they are within their rights to make changes to protect their investment. There probably was contract language preventing him from speaking freely.

Although it should be considered that the GLB group may not be the target audience for duck dynasty - so show loyalists might be able to successfully campaign for his return;

attention for the show = likely a good thing in the long run.

I was going to post something, but you beat me to it...

On FB, A&E has almost 600K likes... and the newly created Stand with Phil Robertson page (launched last night) has 341K. Me thinks A&E is going to regret this...

So, if Phil's comments are anti-gay, what does that say of the Bible? Is the Bible anti-gay too? And if it is indeed anti-gay, what does that tells us -those who believe in the Bible- of homosexuality? Let me be clear that I am not anti-gay, but I am not pro-gay either.

I am surprised that he drew fire for this, and not more on his remarks -based on his life experience, growing up a poor man in LA- on blacks living under Jim Crow laws.

Perhaps more surprising is Robertson’s comments on the plight of African Americans during the time of Jim Crow laws. Growing up in Louisiana, the reality star says he never saw “the mistreatment of any black person.”

“Not once. Where we lived was all farmers. The blacks worked for the farmers. I hoed cotton with them,” Robertson shares. “I’m with the blacks, because we’re white trash. We’re going across the field … They’re singing and happy. I never heard one of them, one black person, say, ‘I tell you what: These doggone white people’ — not a word!”

He adds, “Pre-entitlement, pre-welfare, you say: Were they happy? They were godly; they were happy; no one was singing the blues.”

Before y'all go crazy on him, he isn't advocating for Jim Crow laws to be put back in place.

Here's part of what he said:

"It seems like, to me, a vagina -- as a man -- would be more desirable than a man's anus. That's just me. I'm just thinking: There's more there! She's got more to offer. I mean, come on, dudes! You know what I'm saying? But hey, sin: It's not logical, my man. It's just not logical," he's quoted as saying.

These people are actors with a well rehearsed and well written show targeted to their audience.

Thin skinned PC types (Islam) were trying to stop the praying on this show, now the thin skinned [ Removed by Admin ] get offended for a man presenting his OPINION.

While there is some political correctness involved here, I think the deeper issue is he probably angered some very powerful people in the entertainment industry. To be clear this isn't a rant on so-called liberals, as Hollywood does not have a monopoly on gay executives. At the same time there are a number of movers and shakers in entertainment that are gay and they are not going to stand behind this guy. So my gut feeling is if this ultimately leads to the cancellation of this show then so be it.

As for happy black people under Jim Crow. Although he's entitled to his opinion, I think it's ignorant in that since he did not have black skin and was therefore not subjected to that type of discrimination, it would be rather hard for him to accurately state the level of euphoria for those that were.

The simple fact is once he was done picking cotton for the day, as long as he had the money, his white skin afforded him the opportunity of going to any bar or restaurant in town to have a nice cold beer if he so desired. Those with dark colored skin, not so much.

To hell with A&E. I'm sure TLC or the Discovery Channel would LOVE to pick up Duck Dynasty. Phil may have angered a lot of people but the folks he angered generally don't watch the show anyway. For the record Phil is my least favorite character on the show but I don't agree with them kicking him off the show just because of a goofy queer (GQ) magazine article.

It does seem ironic that Phil does an interview for the "yuppy" GQ magazine..

I personally don't have an issue with him stating his beliefs. He further states adulterers, idolaters, drunkards, etc. will not inherit the kingdom of God -it's what he was taught growing up in L.A. and he is sticking to his beliefs. In the end this show's 15 minutes of fame is about over, maybe they can get another 5 minutes with this controversy.

Just goes to prove you can do anything in Hollywood except give talk about the LGBT community, Jews or blacks.

I remember a few years ago what happened to Imus when he said what a lot of us were thinking. Hopefully this won't happen to him.

Imus is back but doesn't take positions he used to. Hopefully this won't happen to duck dynasty.

Hollywood is run by all these people no wonder we are have a moral crisis in America.

No doubt the rest of the family will walk off of the show which is the most popular show on Cable TV.

Whatever happened to the right of free speech?
