I was going to post something, but you beat me to it...
On FB, A&E has almost 600K likes... and the newly created Stand with Phil Robertson page (launched last night) has 341K. Me thinks A&E is going to regret this...
So, if Phil's comments are anti-gay, what does that say of the Bible? Is the Bible anti-gay too? And if it is indeed anti-gay, what does that tells us -those who believe in the Bible- of homosexuality? Let me be clear that I am not anti-gay, but I am not pro-gay either.
I am surprised that he drew fire for this, and not more on his remarks -based on his life experience, growing up a poor man in LA- on blacks living under Jim Crow laws.
Perhaps more surprising is Robertson’s comments on the plight of African Americans during the time of Jim Crow laws. Growing up in Louisiana, the reality star says he never saw “the mistreatment of any black person.”
“Not once. Where we lived was all farmers. The blacks worked for the farmers. I hoed cotton with them,” Robertson shares. “I’m with the blacks, because we’re white trash. We’re going across the field … They’re singing and happy. I never heard one of them, one black person, say, ‘I tell you what: These doggone white people’ — not a word!”
He adds, “Pre-entitlement, pre-welfare, you say: Were they happy? They were godly; they were happy; no one was singing the blues.”
Before y'all go crazy on him, he isn't advocating for Jim Crow laws to be put back in place.
